you know of any place where i can find this info for like a porsche gt2 or like a ferrari? or any other car thats got more than 450HP and a 6 speed tranny?? lol
im serious....
i need to set up gear ratios for a drag 6 speed thats pushing 476HP and a 100 shot....what im looking for is really quick acceleration, and so that it doesnt skid at the launch...so not a lot of torque at the start...is that possible?
ive kinda been playing around w/ it a bit...but its not perfect. this is the current setup:
1st: 5.604
2nd: 3.723
3rd: 2.751
4th: 2.07
5th: 1.557
6th: 1.254
final: 2.711
please help me if you know where i can find this info.

Good info thanks. This explains why the EX 5spd revs higher since its final ratio is 4.4:1 and why the HX gets good gas mileage with a more highway type gearing of 3.2:1.
This website http://www.new-cars.com/2002/honda/h...fications.html gives different numbers for some of the HX manual gear ratios. All the other numbers look the same for the other trim levels. What's your source? By the way, you left out the HX CVT. The final drive ratio for the HX CVT is 5.81.

Oh yeah, if you add on a turbo then you may want to get a final drive gear set for D series engines. You'll have more power with the turbo throughout the whole rpm range (if the turbo is properly sized to our car), so you don't need to rev the engine as high to accelerate as fast as you need to. To maximize your top speed you can increase the final drive ratio. You'll sacrifice some low end torque, but the torque that you do have in the higher rpm's can be used more effectively to speed up the car. At least I think that's how it works.
Anyway, this site: A&J Racing Online has the 4.714 and 4.929 available for our cars. Let's say that the maximum speed of the car is something like 140mph (for an EX let's say). Let's say that this is in 5th gear and at redline. Now, if you get the 4.929 final drive gear you could go 154mph. With an LX the difference is even more pronounced since the final drive gear is a little smaller.
Anyway, if you're building a race track civic then this may be something to consider.

Are you sure? I thought that I understood it after reading this: Frequently Asked Questions About Differentials
Oh, never mind. That's where I went wrong. The sentence above it states...
I thought that the lower the number, the lower the ratio. Nevermind, my bad. So yeah, strike that and reverse it.
Edit: Nice, I did some calculations and it seems that it would be possible for us to score a 15.2s @ 89mph with the 4.929 final drive gear. I wonder how much this thing costs?

I'm still not sure I get all this. I understand now about the higher the number the lower the gear ratio, which means the engine turns a lot more for each rotation of the wheels, which I presume means quicker acceleration. If that's all true, then theoretically I should be running 15s with my 5.81 ratio? Obviously I don't really know what I'm talking about. I'm just looking for a clear explanation on what these numbers are telling us.
By the way, I know there is info on the final ratio for the HX CVT but I wonder what the high gear ratio is for my car. Anyone know?

I think I just found my answer at http://www.caranddriver.com/xp/Caran...est_audia4.xml
According to this article, the HX CVT the gear ratios span from 2.47:1 to 0.45:1. Another interesting thing I got from the article: "Ultra-low gearing negates the need for a power-sapping torque converter." Maybe that's why the final drive ratio is 5.81?

That's totally backwards. Going to a higher number decreases the speed for a given RPM, not increses it. So instead of topping out at 140, you might top out at 132. But you'd get to 132 quicker than the guy with the same engine gets to 140....
as far as numbers go...ive been consistent w/ 9.7's at about 138-139mph for the 1/4 mile.
i think thats not too bad. hehehe Registered!!
