I'm not a Honda mechanic so don't quote me on this. I don't think it'll hurt your car but i think you may as well wait until ~3500 miles to change your oil. IMO, a 3k interval is a bit soon unless you drive your car pretty hard. Oh and if you're wondering if Mobil 1 is okay to use, i use it too

2000??? Uh, that's a little extreme don't you think?
Consumer Reports states:
Myth: Engine oil should be changed every 3,000 miles.
Reality: Although oil companies and quick-lube shops like to promote this idea, it's usually not necessary. Go by the recommended oil-change schedule in your vehicle's owner's manual. Most vehicles driven under normal conditions can go 7,500 miles or more between oil changes. Some models now come with a monitoring system that alerts the driver when the oil needs changing.

I thought I read somwhere on this site that you shouldnt change your oil if its a brand new car since the oil has some special break-in agents.. not sure. Changing your oil frequently(2000-3000 miles) doesnt hurt anyone except your pocketbook and perhaps the enviroment..
I plan on changing mine every 2000-3000K since its easy to do.

Just do it early. My friends parents have been changing the oil on thier 1995 dodge minivan every 2500 miles. It has 180,000 miles and runs new, REALLY, almost new. I love how it feels, and you can beat the **** out of it. Dont forget, breaking in is eternal.

Just don't forget the brake fluid...I just did mine and it was black as night...bear in mind I have 75K on a 97, and the previous owner never did it. Scary! The rotors were never turned, fluids never flushed...little by little I've been reconditioning all the parts. I don't know when I'll start on the hoses, but I think that should be next. Poor car! I treat her like royalty. Though the previous owner did a good job keeping other things pretty up to date. The paint still looks brand new.
My thing is, I know my car aint going to be fast for a long time, but on a regular basis just about, my civic is the cleanest around. I try and maintain a show room shine as much as possible.

Twilight....my dad changed his brake fluid only a time or two on his accord. At 200k, he got it changed and inspected again, i drove the car home and brake pedal went in as far as the clutch. Master cylynder cracked. Not a good day. Funny thing is, it now has 220k, and still on the original clutch.
