Yea that's what I was thinking. Why the hell is this guy asking about chirping tires when the thread is called shifting in a RACE. You wouldn't want to chirp your tires for a race! That will slow you down. Most people would want to feather the clutch not dump it!
That's also why most people chirp their tires on "stock" tires because they are crap! If you chirp every gear for racing, than you're losing like half a second to get traction each time. What's the point? Maybe he wants the guy he's racing to think he "sounds" fast.
hey man no need to be jerk bout it im only 16 and been drivin stick for 2 months and it just i raced a couple peeps the other day and i heard them chirppin when they were shiftin. so wut is the right way to shift while racing ?
so joe, and bartkat, you are telling me that when you go to race someone...you dont shift as fast as you possibly can? i know for a fact that whenever i shift as fast as i can at redline, (from1st to 2nd, or occasionally 2nd to 3rd) the car chirps....how a split second loss of traction can mean that much to a race is beyond me....id rather chirp then shift slow and lose ground

Did I say that? Yes and No. I have a 6 puck sprung hub racing clutch. That with the much added torque of the N20, and I not only "chirp" 2nd, I can burn out if I'm not careful (i.e. I don’t dump the clutch at redline), by 3rd I have enough speed not to worry about it... Of course off the bottle, my clutch still "chirps" (god I feel gay for saying that so much) the tires when I can and do dump it as fast as I can at fuel cut. Does this mean that I’m losing traction? Yes, but is it enough to warrant me shifting lower or slower? No. MY point was that the jerk session over "chirping" tires is retarded.
Thank you for playing.

thats where "skill" comes into play.
when you shift for acceleration, depending on the vehicle you're driving... its torque curve, the rpm you shift at, the traction of the tires, the condition of the road, the speed you're at.. the current traction you have....
you decide how much and how fast you want the power you're releasing onto the wheels... another words, how you want to let out the clutch and how you go on the throttle pedal...
and, its not too hard to deal with that in a stock civic, no matter how crappy the stock firestones are. its not like we have torque coming outta our behinds... so its easily managable.
another thing to think about for the guy that said he rather shift fast and how important a second of traction is....
in that one second (well, probably less than a second) that your tires wont grip... you just went from a mid-high 16 sec car to a mid-high 17 sec car (if you really did lose traction for an entire second)

Man I never knew that our cars could chirp from 2nd to 3rd with stock tires
I always thought our 7th gens didn't have enough power to do that.

I chirp 2nd everytime I race. I've done it once with my 17"s but with my Firestone back on its much easier. Start in first and take it up and shift before the redline, let the clutch go and hit the gas right away. I don't know if this is good for the car or not, maybe I should be easier on the car when I race? I dont know, but yeah thats how I chirp...
