3rd gear? not without a 100 shot....hehe
Umm I'm confused....The topic is Shifting in a race...however you're asking about chirping your tires? Doesn't chirping your tires actually slow you down since your car is trying to get traction?
u can do it in an auot i have done it before i swear lol... iw as floring it off the line in D then ryt before it was about to shift i slamed it down into D2.. i coulda swore i heard a chirp... believe it nor not.....

How do you neutral drop from 1st to 2nd?
Not that it's good for your car, but how would you do it anyway?
A guess: As 1st redlines, put it into neutral while flooring it and then put it into 2nd?
Uh. Yeah.
Hey guess what? An Auto should be able to shift faster than any human anyway.
According to Motor Week, with some fast cars (I think the new Camaros or whatever) the auto's are faster than the manuals in the 1/4th mile.

either none of you can drive very well, or you dont have faith in your car...
i am not saying that i can chirp third on a regular basis, but when pushed hard enough, and the shift is just perfect, i can get a nice lil "chirp" from 3rd ocasionally.....i thank my REVO SS for that.....was not able to do the same w/ the stock shifter....
w/ the revo, the 2nd to 3rd throw is CONSIDERABLY shorter.....
edit: im not talking about tire spinning here people....a CHIRP, exactly what it sounds like....

you get crappy tires and a super stong clutch and i can make a stock DX "chirp" 4th.
"Chirping" means loss of traction and thus you are gettng that much less power to the ground, which in turns means you are that much slower.
Bottom line? Dont worry about it unless you are a F7F ricer boy racer wanabe.

Try chirping ALL gears in an automatic.
To my surprise I chirped 4th and I drive a 5-speed. I was going about 90 in 5th and dropped it into 4th... this Corrola was pacing me, so I dumped the clutch in 4th and the wheels chirped believe it or not.

Sounds like the Camaro has good gear ratios in automatic.

when I see people chirp their tires, I immediately think they can't drive... especially when they try to "race"
I dont get why people try so hard to chirp... when its usually something new manual trans. driver do on accident.
I remember when I first started to drive... I accidentally chirped into 2nd gear... and I was thinking in my head "damn let out the clutch too fast and too soon" and my ricer passengers goes "cool you chirped 2nd gear..."

Why the hell would someone wanna chirp their tired when they are shifting in a 4 cyl anyways, you need all the power you can get. The only time its cool for the tires to chirp is when I'm riding in my friends blown 99 TA auto, that thing chirps about every gear, but its not from dropping the clutch (impossible in an auto anyways) its from a little thing called torque, and shifting into the torque curve, something I'm sure a lot of ricers on this site have no clue about.
BTW, you 2 are both absolutely right

Yea that's what I was thinking. Why the hell is this guy asking about chirping tires when the thread is called shifting in a RACE. You wouldn't want to chirp your tires for a race! That will slow you down. Most people would want to feather the clutch not dump it!
That's also why most people chirp their tires on "stock" tires because they are crap! If you chirp every gear for racing, than you're losing like half a second to get traction each time. What's the point? Maybe he wants the guy he's racing to think he "sounds" fast.
