VTEC kicks in at 2500 RPM

Why does everyone think that our vtec kicks in at 4500 rpm?
i put a vtec light in my civic and the light turns on at 2500 rpm
i was surprized when i saw it turn on that early, but it's true

we'll arnt there 3 stages of VTEC in the new civics - so it could kick in at different rpm's for a different profile?

yeah and you bought a vtec light made for a 6th gen or below civic. The older versions are easier to connect a light to. The cam lobes lock in at 4500. Do you see anyone using the vacuum filters(mini look-a-like cone filters) on the newer engines? No, because now everything is controlled/monitored by the computer. You have to love it and they say silicon valley is where its all at.

Totally agree! And common knowledge of any Honda VTEC should tell you at 2500rpm VTEC don't kick in! Oh and yeah, for the new civics, below 2500rpm u're working with 12 valves, then above 2500rpm, all four values kick in, and then at 5000rpm or so, the VTEC kicks in.

Get someone to reprogram your light sensor.

I guess if you're desperate, the vtec light can show you when its on, since you can't hear it or feel it! Personally, i wouldn't get one of those...its a little ghetto. I hardly even hit vtec except for once a month.

Yep, or sometimes lower it seems, but only under heavy load. Under normal load VTEC in an HX will kick in at 3100rpm.

I don't feel anything at 2500 rpm. I have a 5speed EX coupe and I hear a difference in the airflow at around 5500 rpm...

No, didn't make it myself. If you look at the copywrite it's from "How Stuff Works".
