WRX or A4?
Ok, there was a thread a few days ago that asked about which would win in a race; a WRX or an A4. In real life, which would you rather have? The WRX or an A4 (six, not four) with a stick?
I'd personally take the A4, luxory and power. Not just power. I don't like the insides of the WRX and I'll always pick the German car if thats a choice.

I'll take a 2000 S4 for the same price as a new WRX.
If I were going the A4 route, I wouldn't get the new model as its more luxury orientated (larger engine but alot more weight). I would get the 1.8T and and upgrade from there.
My next car in two years will be a new S4 or the S3 if they ever bring it to the states! That thing is sweeeet!

i don't really know anything about the A4, but i like the wrx and its power potential. plus, i have never driven a car with awd and would love the extra handling. i haven't seen the interior of the scooby though??

Definitely A4...I test drove a WRX Impreza hatchback, and while it *is* fast and handles very nicely, the interior is just too plain and really behind the times...the colors are bland, and lacks the amenities of the A4...I don't like the new A4 design, with those huge plastic under-side bumpers and the ugly taillights...I'd prefer an '00 A4, but an A4 nonetheless...

I would go witht the wrx. The price isn't too bad. The A4 might go for close to 40 grand. Especially if you get the 6 speed quattro. Wrx is cheaper and imo, has a better engine. The interior might not be so hot, but with the extra 10-15 grand that you save, you can make one helluvan interior if you want.

A4 1.8t Quattro. My boss has a 99 and he chipped it from 150/145 to 190/187. Good god it's fast. And he's just getting started . It's an Avant and he's going to leave it as a sleeper, but put the goodies under the hood

I've test driven both, and although the WRX is a better performer than either the A4 1.8T or 3.0, it is more "raw". For that much cash, the A4 is not far away and you are getting in my opinion much better value and much better resale. I'm definitely eyeing the A4 for the next car, I've been impressed with the last generation and current generation models. The WRX is nice also, I actually just test drove the 5-speed sedan this past weekend. But for that much cash it felt "cheap".
Depends on how much money you have. A4 is a lot more expensive than the WRX in terms of original price and maintenance. I've considered the 1999 A4 Quattro 1.8T used to replace my 2001 civic but the maintenance is extremely expensive and problems come up often.
Make sure you do your reasearch on reliability and cost to maintain. The WRX is much cheaper to buy and much cheaper to maintain. You need a lot of money to own an Audi especially a used one out of warranty.
If you have the cash and can afford it the A4 is the better car.

On the power potential of the A4....
If you can tune a GTi or a Jetta Turbo up to 400 HP, you can do it to an A4. It is the same 1.8L 20V turbo motor; and with the Audi, you can put it through all 4 wheels. Sure, you need cash to do it, but an A4 looks much more sophisticated than a WRX. It just depends what you're looking for.

at the dragstrip this past thur. night, i was talking to a wrx owner who was running 13.9's all night long and mind you it runs about 14.3-14.4 stock....all he did was put on a cat-back exhaust and a boost controller (15.5 lbs. of boost). If he were to eliminate all three cat converters he'd be doing mid to low 13's consistently. take it for what it's worth and good look on your decision
