99-00 SI VS. 02 SI stat comparison. ??

ok i've been hearing people say how the New SI's are slower than the 6th gens and im trying to figure out how this is? Here are the specs i got them off edmunds

99-00 SI
Horse power: 160-hp
Torque: 111ft-lbs
Weight: 2601-lbs
Acceleration (0-60 mph): 7.2 sec

02 SI
Horse power: 160-hp
Torque: 132ft-lbs
weight: 2744-lbs
Acceleration (0-60 mph): 7.9 sec????

Is the gearing in the new SI really that bad that the car is that much slower? i mean the motor should whoop a b16 stat wise. What the hell did honda do wrong??

So is area under the curve. It also has to do with the fact that even though the new Si has more torque and a more even powerband, that actually hurts it in a way.

The brunt of the B16A si's power is up top, between 6000-8000rpm.... which is exactly where you spend your time when accelerating all out.

When you shift in the new Si you fall too far out of an already anemic powerband, making it slower.... And if memory serves right, you actually even have to shift to 3rd gear right BEFORE you hit 60mph (at like 55mph or something)

the new Si is a bloated pig. Hp/weight ratio plays a huge part in acceleration.....

man those things are so ugly. i test drove one and man did it suck. you can feel the torque difference but that is it. you can't feel the clutch engagement and damn it it just sucks. my vic ex feels faster than that p.o.s..
