More ignorant high school kids...
My friend Mike has a late 60's (68 I think) Pontiac GTO that he and his dad have restored and slightly customized. This idiot in a purple four door saturn challenged Mike to a race coz the GTO is a 3-speed. His reasoning is since the Saturn only reaches 35-40 mph in 3rd - the GTO's top speed is no more than 45mph... some people... Did you guys have idiots like this at your high school, or is it just something in the water here?
Friend of mine has a '95 Celica, and it's 1.6L I think, friend of his has a Jetta an reasoned that since it has 2.0L it could spank the Celica, while it might be able to, there are a lot of cars with less than 2.0L that could beat the Jetta six way to sunday.

I had a guy in a a 2.4 liter cavalier think that he could smoke my car because i only have a 2.0 liter.
Even though it's a waste of gas, it was still worth the look on his face as I stared at him in my rearview mirror.

many dumb high school kids, when i was in high school, believe that a "v6" mustang can beat a 4 cylinder integra type r, because it has 2 more cylinders. dunno what they are thinking?

My dad had a 1965 Lemans (Less souped up version of the GTO, same body style though) with a 326 c.i. engine, that only had a 2 Speed, YES...2 SPEED Automatic Trans that did 120 mph (at least that's the fastest I ever drove it.) So, it went 120 in Second Gear. The guy at your school is an idiot.

I'm in HS so I know firsthand about seeing all the stupid kids. I'd say nearly EVERY Honda there is driven by some kid that has nothing but tacky mods and little mechanical knowledge.
I'm in highschool and know what u guys are talking about. i have a civic dx with only a CAI and some other kid with a corrola S old model, wanted to race me because i had the lowest model civic. Well i spanked him, left him in the dust. After the race he said his car was due for an oil change and that held his car back. Bullsh*t he just didn't want to get embarassed because he got beat by a civic dx, and just to shut him up i raced him again and still beat him.
Not hating on Jetta's, but I don't like them at all. I had one a few weeks ago pull up next to me and rev the engine, so I figured what the hell, I'll give it a shot. I figured since there were 4 people packed into the car, I might be able to take him. So on green I gunned it and left him in the dust. He just sat at the light. Apparently revving his engine so much caused it to overheat. I waited for him at the next light to see if everything was ok, and he was all cranky "Yeah, I'm fine."
Just thought I'd share my Jetta story ..
And yeah, a lot of high school kids I see are pretty dumb. I don't consider myself very smart either, but I've seen some real winners driving around on Saturday nights. Squealing tires and doing donuts in the parking lot with their old-school mustang to get attention, only to get their as$ handed to them by a late model import.
Such a waste ...

Yes.
If there's one thing I've learned (I'm no high schooler anymore) is that there is ALWAYS someone faster than you!
I had my @$$ handed to me recently by a mid-90's Nissan 240SX. Yes, I was driving my Mustang LX 5.0, not my Civic.
Does that mean that those of you that have beat 240SX's can beat me? I don't think so. His 12.8 second 1/4 mile run was a little too much for my measly 13.4 second run. FWIW, on the same night, there were not 1, but 2 S2000's running mid 15's at the track. Yes, the track is at sea level, so the air isn't thin as though they were running in Colorado.
As the Talon/Eclipse/Laser owners know, a turbocharger adds plenty of displacement to their little 2.0 engines. Heck mid 80's Buick Grand Nationals, with their small 3.8 V6 turbo, ran like big block musclecars!
Have fun and try and take it to the track.
