2 yuppies and their starbucks....
I had posted this on s2ki.com
Driving on the freeway early this morning, I came upon an older model porsche convertible. Maybe a 944?? I have no idea about the older porsches. Definitely a late 80's though from the look.
I am doing a little drive by, and I see yuppy #1 in the passenger seat. This older 50's or 60's year old woman with a bad dye job on her hair, and she has that whole "my hair is shorter than a man's" look going on. (i hate that butch cut look on women.... that, and pregnant woman thinking it's sexy to wear tight *** clothes and baby tees... but anyways) So I first mistake her for a guy, but then she turns and I realize it's a woman. In one hand she has her starbucks coffee, and in the other she has a cigarette. (the top is up on the porsche) She gives me one of those look-down-your-sunglasses at me looks.
Okay, after that scary encounter, I move a bit more forward and look over to see the older man driving. He's got grey hair, pulled back into a pony tail, and in one hand he has HIS starbucks coffee, and in the other hand he has a cigar. He's using the cigar hand to drive as well.
Disgusted by this I just kinda sit there in awe. It looked like a commercial. For yuppies. Who want an old porsche. And own stock in starbucks.
At this the wife kinda looks and says something to her late-life-crisis husband, and he looks over at me. So now they've caught me staring... oops. He proceeds to put his cigar in his mouth, and looks at me again. Now he takes his coffee and puts it in what I assume is a cupholder. (or the vast crevice between his wife's legs)
I start to accelerate a bit, and I then hear him downshift. He kinda looks over at me once he's beside me again, and then he just GOES.
I downshift to 3rd (going about 80mph) and rev hard to 9000rpm. Shift into 4th and he is swiftly falling behind. <cocky>That's right old man, hope your coffee didn't get too cold in the short time it took to get your *** handed to you.</cocky> I shut down at 110 and he is easily several lengths behind.
From the encounter I would guess this is an older 944 convertible, but not the turbo kind. (the turbo would have hung a little better, I'd think)
Time to sell some of that starbucks stock and buy a 911 turbo.

yea that was a good one. i had the unfortunate experience of working for a starbucks for 2 months...every day the same thing. ladies who had just given birth come in with a line of strollers and sip coffee. so glad i quit! that story reminded me of "gone in 60 sec" where cage is talking to the ferrari salesman

There was a 944 Convertible??? That I did not know. I thought only the 911 came with a topless option. huh, learn something new everyday. Are you sure it wasn't a 911 slantnose? They have flip up headlights like a 944.

Like I said, I'm not up on the older porsches. It looked like a 944 convertible, but I don't know if they even made those in convertible or not... ???

Sorry to rain on your parade... but either he wasn't trying or he can't drive. Any Porsche should be able to smoke you. My neighbor has a late 80s 944 coupe and that thing would kill anything with an "H" or an "A" on it. Its also in perfect condition, that might have had something to do with it.

Uhm, right.
The 944 porsches are high-14 to mid-15 second cars depending on trim level.
The turbo 944 S is the model that would give me the most trouble.... but even then it's a low-mid 14 second car....
So no, you'd be wrong. I'd smoke any stock 944 porsche, especially from a freeway roll.

Yuppies suck. Way to put 'em in their place. There's nothing worse than someone who basically goes around saying "look at me, I have money."
All bow before the awesome might of the S2000.
Someday, maybe I, too, can roll with the big dogs ...

My apoligies for the comments on the S2K vs the 944. I talked to my neighbor and I did not realize that the guy had a lot of custom work done to his car. Hence the reason its as fast as it is. I thought it was stock. Sorry.
they did make a 944 convertible it was the s2, they made it from 1989 to 1992, and it was a turbo with 250 hp, and 5.4 0-60 but the convertible version is very rare in the U.S., so probably what you saw was a 968 that has 238 hp. . .
in the end we are comparing sports cars over a decade old to brand new cars.
i like putting the beatings on losers but honestly...try racing a new porsche boxter S...or up (the 911s...tt beatings). those cars will rip up a brand new s2k.
in 1 town over there was a relatively new carrera 4S in front of me that must have thought i wanted to race cause my exhaust is loud. that thing took off like a bat outta hell.

a boxster S and an S2000 are almost dead even from a stop (driver's race).
From a roll, however, the S2000 will slowly walk.
I have raced 2 boxster S's (both from a roll) and walked them slowly as I ran each gear to 9000rpm....
so no, a new boxster S will not tear up an S2k.
A 911 however will.
(though recently there was a race between a turbo'd S2k @ 8psi and a 911... with the S2k winning from a roll by 1 car length)

honestly, those that know me, know that i would take any porsche over any honda any day. there are hondas that are most definitely faster than some of the older porsches (NSX and S2000) but the thing is, porsches were made to last, they were made well, and they were made to sit at redline or near for hours at a time. a porsche is one of the only, if not THE only, cars that can be taken showroom to road track and kick ***. they were NOT designed to be drag cars, and they have the suspensions to prove it. good kill, but my point is that there are a lot of cars that can beat a porsche in pure horsepower until you start the curves and hard braking.
