Got a ticket, need suggestions...

I received one of those "Resident Permit Only" tickets. It costs $10. Not much, but the thing is that I didn't know that I couldn't park there. There's usually a sign saying "Residential Parking Only". I went into that street and parked and saw no such sign. Then when I was exiting the street from the other end I saw the sign. It was a long way away from where I parked. I didn't see it. Now, my question is... Does anyone know if there are minumum required distances for those signs? I think I parked at least 500 feet away from it. I'll have to go back to make sure of the distance.

Update: Look on the second page for a picture of the response that I received.

I suggest that you go to wherever you were with a digital camera and take pictures of the area. This will show that there's no such signs in the vicintiy of where you parked. I think they have to be something like every 100 feet or something. Check with your city laws and zoning department about sign placement. If you can prove that the sign was not within a reasonable distance of sight, you might be able to get it dropped.

I'm not sure but I think there IS something about parking near signs and such...visability may be a factor?

Is this like some university parking sign or something? Apartment Complex? Appeal it. I got one last year because I came back to the dorm at 1am in the rain, and I stuck my car as close to the door as I could. Well, it was no parking 2-5 am (yes, rediculous, welcome to Purdue). well I looked for a sign for about 5 minutes before I found it the next day. 15-20 feet up, on a light post 6 feet off the road, was a 1 foot tall sign. It was also non-reflective (just white paint w/ black letters) so it was invisible at night, especially in the rain. i drove by 3 consecutive nights to see if it was visible in the dark, It wasn't, so I appealed it and saved the $25 bucks. Look for little things like that, you can get out of it, especially if it's the first time you got a parking ticket.

Allright, this sucks! There was a sign. It was high up on a lamp post on the other side of the street and it was rather far away from where I parked, but it said "both sides" in tiny letters. I have three pictures that I just took. If you're curious have a peak. I parked where the SUV is in the pictures when I got the ticket.

View from parked location looking ahead.
Straight ahead, where I parked.
View to the rear, you can see my whip.
And here's the !@#$ing culprit!

take a picture of the sign and take it to court and show it was hard to see and its the only sign and it will more then likely be dismissed, usually residential parking has parking permits for that certain area for the residence.!!! but take a pic and show it in court

I don't know about your ticket except that you must fight it. Fight the power the Grey.

Anyhow, those sure are some pretty houses. I would love to have one like the one with the shingles. Now if I could just find one that wasn't 300k.

See, even you can't see it. The last one has the sign in it. I think I might dispute it, we'll see...

If it's on the other side of the street, then shouldn't it be no parking on that side??? No one is going to look behind them while they're driving for a No Parking sign. And I can't see any signs when you look forward. You've got a case with those pics.

I agree that it is wrong and totally sux, but you're going to waste more money on gas and parking at the courthouse than the $10 that the ticket is even for............ I know, I know, it's the principle...........

Yes, it's the principle damn it! I printed out the pictures I took and I wrote up a formal letter of protest. I bundled everything up in an envelope and I'll mail it tomorrow. Wish me luck! I'll let you guys know how it turns out...

go to them and tell them that you shouldn't have to pay it because there was not a sign from the direction that you came from therefore you didn't know. tell them that they need a sign on that end to.

A letter of protest is ineffective. Take it to court. The reason being is that its easy for them to just write a letter, however its a pain in the butt to get an officer to go to court just for a trivial violation. The judge would be more understanding than a Parking Administrator guy, who loves your tickets.

Too late. I thought that was the last word. I paid the ticket already.
Oh well, next time I'll see if I can take it to court.

Hey, on the bright side $10 for a ticket's really cheap, considering all the possible misfortunes that can happen. Yesterday I saw an Accord in my neighborhood whose fender got kicked-in in like 10 places, and his Altezza's shattered and broken. And all the cars that get keyed these days... eeesh. Be happy
