How far without an oil change...
How far do you think I can...er, how far someone could go without an oil change?

3000 for turbo or cars running N20. 5K for anything else thats street driven. 3k miles on a naturally aspirated street driven civic is way overkill, especially if you are using a synthetic lube.

The book actually says 10,000 miles and 5,000 if you do alot of city driving. I wouldn't wait more than 5,000 and usually change my oil around 4,000. Changing it at 3,000 is a waste of $$$, i've seen alot of clean oil come out at 3,000 and even 4,000, used to work at a honda dealer.

how long u can go all depends on how long u want ur engine to last, the longer u wait the shorter ur engine life, and the shorter u wait the longer the engine life, so its really up 2 u!! 11k is wayyyyyy toooooo much!!!! u shouldnt let it go past 6k!! 8k at the absolute max!!! jus think about it an oil change is like 25 bucks, is that worth it to have ur engine last??
i change mine every 3000km!!

Well, as you all may know, I am currently running Royal Purple lubricants: Engine and transmission oils. I plan to go 10K miles on the engine oil and then I am gonna use of those services that you ship a sample of your oil to, so it can be analyzed. I am confident that the oil at that point will still have a high integrity and its consistency would still allow another 3-5k miles safely. There's more to engine longevity than "3k-mile oil changes", you know. I have about 4k miles on the oil, BTW.

it has nothing to do with the integrity of the viscosity and everything do with the particles and contaminants in the used oil that cause undue friction and wear.

Exactly...but these DO cause a molecular breakdown of the oil itself, which reduces its viscosity index, which in turn reduces its resistance to heat, which in turn accelerates its break-down. This is why I am conducting my little experiment at a conservative (for synth) 10k miles and having the oil analyzed at that point.

I get mine changed at my dealer every 4-5k. It is still basically clean when i get it there. I do alot of city driving. as the car gets more miles, i would suggest bumping it to 3-4k.

I change my oil every 3k because of it. I won't use synthetics and I won't use additives. Next time you change your oil compare the old and the new. Do you really want that old nasty oil in your car? Not me.
Your car is like a person. Do you like to drink clean, crisp water or do you like dirty, murky water? You don't eat crap so why expect your car to? I'd gladly pay an extra $30-45 a year in oil changes than have to pay $2000 for a new engine. Your call, Bubba.

Just remember one thing. Oil breaks down the hotter it is. If you rev higher than others. If you drive in a hotter climate. If you have regular oil (dino oil) in your car. All are reasons to change it sooner. I go by the manual. Plus I have a synthetic blend. You can tell by the color of the oil if it's still good enough to lubricate everything properly. Mine wasn't like black coffee when I changed my oil. It was more like dark maple syrup. I will continue to change it every 5,000 miles. Maybe when I get my turbo I will change it earlier.
