Exhaust or CAI? Which to buy first?

Just looking to do some upgrades to my car and I was wondering if you guys had any tips or suggestions on what to do first? Exhaust or CAI? Which one will show the most improved performance, if any? Im new to the whole car mod / import scene, so I don't know much right now, but am trying to learn, so only educated responses please. I dont need you to tell me to do a search or buy a different car. Those comments are old and played out, atleast if your gonna be a smartass, have something original for me. Thanks!

Will the exhaust do anything for the car other than give it sound? I mean, what is the difference between like a $100 exhaust and a $500 exhaust? I would assume a performance difference...or no?

Depends on how much money you have. If you want to start off as inexpensive as possible, do the cold air intake. Otherwise, if you have the money, I would do the exhaust first.

Edit: Actually, if money isn't an issue, do both. I would also do a header while you're at it.

The diff on exhaust prices is catback or just a muffler, a muffler you won't really tell that much but a catbackis very good improvement, plus very good sound, if u only wanna spend a little cash right now go w/ a CAI it adds a good little diff and is a cheap mod.

If you get an exhaust, you'll lose low-mid range torque but you'll gain high end torque. (I only notice this trying to top out my Civic's speed.) Intake-headers-exhaust is the *traditional* order. I got my exhaust first. I like it being more noticable. I'd get the CAI though it's noticable too... no loss of power.

And also, what brand CAI would you guys suggest? I think I've seen AEM and INJEN.

You would want the CAI. The intake will bring in more cold air and the exhaust alone will bring in more hot air. You want more cold air before you get more hot air. You can never have too much cold air

Some headers can be cheaper than an intake. Headers connect from the engine to the cat converter (which connects to the exhaust.).

Without going into too much details, it increases airflow to the engine. Our engines do little gain with intake-headers-exhaust until you get a high flow cat converter. HP has one. You can get the headers with the high flow cat under $200.

Im thinking about putting the CAI on first, just cause its a little cheaper. If I do this, what is the first thing I'll notice when I drive my car for the first time with it in there?

Everyone likes the sound of the intake when they push their car. It makes a vacuum-like sound. Your car starts and shuts off with the intake noticably working. It sounds pretty kew.
