Headswap? Is it possible?

I know nothing about it. I heard something like "all you need is a head of an engine. For example an SI head (cams basically) and then you swap it with yours and your downtown. I dont know how this works or if its possible please enlighten me.
Keep in mind I overheard this from some ricers at the local shop.

How is the head attached to the cylinder? Isn't there a gasket or something between the two to keep it sealed? And then is it bolted down or what?

I dont believe its that simple. In order to change a SOHC engine to DOHC, it requires a little more than just changing the head. The timing belt for example would have to be changed in order to fit properly, and a lot of modifications would have to be done to the head to make sure that the cams are coming in contact with the valve springs. It's simply just not that easy, or in other words, its not a "bolt on" modification.

head swap with doch & sohc is not possible. however, i think that any other sohc head would be compatible. a z6 head would be good if it is possible.

I can not think of any head you could put on the 7th gen vic. It turns the wrong way. As far as the head swap, yes you can take a sohc and put a dohc head on it. ANYTHING can be done it is just a matter of how much you want to spend.

How much do you think it would cost us to change to DOHC?

The head off an SI will not work, the K series (and B series if you were speaking of the old SI) engine is completely different from our D series SOHC. Heads are usually only swappable between the same family of engines. You would basically need everything that goes with the head of the engine including the ECU.

Just about the only way to make the 7th gen vic a DOHC is to do an engine swap. Personally I think that single cam has a lot of potential. Of course the 7th gen has none due to the design. The engine was designed for emissions not performance. The engines that could be swaped in are the new SI, the new Integra and the CRV.

you can only change heads between the same series block of engine, but even then its a lot of hard work and you would have to be prepared to spend lots of dough. the late eighties integra has a DOHC D series engine, but there has been little talk of that because most people think its not possible or a waste of time. either way, Htown took it upon himself to prove to everyone that K series was possible, so maybe someone could do it with a different DOHC.
