Some good project cars?

I was bored so I just started to think, what would be a good project car, either japanese or european. Something cheap and pretty easy to find would be good, w/ a lot of junkyard swaps/parts availabilty. I always thought about finding a dead GTi(see the post on the 240 AWD Golf thread) or maybe a late 80's Supra, or the AWD turbo Celica (forget the name of it) that toyotta sold in the '80's. I dont think id find one, but that would be sweet.

Definately a CRX or the 5th and 6th generation Civics. I would like to make a C.T.R. Can't forget about the Supra and RX-7. Or the nissan 240 converting it to S14 Silvia status.

Find an ex-Police LTD and pull the 5.8L engine out of it. Build it up then drop it into an older Mustang .

rotary work confusels me so it wouldnt be a very good project car for myself, but if i had plenty of money id make a project car out of the 3rd gen rx7, put in a b20 tri rotor motor in it, get RHD conversion and twin turbo setup, then Id be whooping sheit up, but not for me to do but at a shop, for me to work on id get a CRX or 5th gen civic, easy to work on, cheap, and FF.

Well I guess that is true. If you don't understand a rotory engine then it wouldn't be the greatest project car. I love them they are ssssoooooo much fun. They have so much potential too. They are cheap and common. Parts are kinda hard to find unless you know where to look too. So either way that is my hubby's and my project for a while. I have been working on the electrical all day. We will pull the interior out this weekend and then ge it painted soon. There are just to may options for us right now. Oh well it iwll be bad *** soon and faster than any CRX.

We got ours for $350 it is a 81 RX-7. We also had to pay to get it out of an impound yard and to get it registered. Basically all together we ended up paying $700 to get it home. The thing is great. She is really a cold hearted b!tch when she hasn't gotten a chance to warm up but all RX-7s I have driven have been that way. I'm so happy to have one again. I learned to drive a 5 speed in an 84 RX-7. This car was well worth the money and it will be fast wen we get done with it. Of course that won't be for a very long time but hey.

Actually they can be alot better than a civilian car's engine. They have regular fluid changes, something not all civilians abide by. My previous car was a 94 Police Interceptor, sold it with 178K on the odo. Last time I saw it in town the new owner told me it was almost at 200K.

any 60's muscle car is a great project i think those cars like real nice when completely restored. i would prefer a 65 mustang convertible but tehre are so many cars at that time that were nice.

'65 mustangs, 3rd gen rx7's and other similar cars are all quite expensive to acquire. my definition of "project car" is something cheap that has the potential to go fast. my ideal project car would be a AE86 corolla hatch, a early 90's mazda 323 turbo or a 90-94 nissan 240.

Look for an upper 80's lude with 4 wheel steering . I used to have one they would rock on the parkway.

I would go for a CRX. I am looking for one but am having a hard time finding one. I want it for a winter beater and save the money up and then do some engine work in the spring. It will be my wifes car, she wants it so we will build it up her way.
