Most rediculous thing you've gotten a ticket for

What's the the most assinine thing you've ever gotten a ticket for? Alright, I'm not talking "dark tint" or something which is actually a law, I'm talking stuff that cops just make up, i.e. my story:

Summer of 98', Hamton Beach, New Hampshire (cheeseball capital of the world) My friend and I turn off the main "strip" onto a side street. I'm in 1st gear of my 1988 VW Scirocco, and push the rpm's up to about 3500rpm before shifting to 2nd- note: I have NO mods done to the car at this point, nothing to make it louder like an intake or exhaust, the car was bone stock. Just then, I see a crazy man with a badge jump in front of my car and order me to stop. I do, and pull over, and he takes my licence and goes back to his car for no joke, a half an hour. When he finally comes back, I'm surprised to see a ticket in his hand. I ask "What did I do ossifer?" (j/k, I said officer) and my good God, the next words that came out of his mouth were the most ridiculous babble I've ever heard in my life, they were "I'm citing you for NOT SHIFTING FAST ENOUGH"!!!!!!! WHAT! I laugher and asked if that was a law. He said that the noise level was "disturbing the peace" Ha ha ha! Isn't that great! The ticket was for $135!!!! My friend and I started laughing right in his face until he left. Anyway, I went to court and won, and the judge even laughed at the cop for attempting to ticket me for that.

I'm not sure about any other localities, but we're not allowed to "make" laws up. That's the job of a state legislator. We simply write what is already on the books...

I hear you Quick, but some cops do things they are not "allowed" to do (like slam 16 y.o. kids heads against cop cars and beat them while handcuffed- have you seen that on the news? It's all over here in Cali)- he saw my car and wanted to give me ticket for something, it took him a half hour to make something up, and at that point he would have looked more stupid to just let me go.

it's been revieled by another gas station camera that this cuffed kid grabbed the cop in the groin.... everyone's blowing it outa proportion.... think about it if you were in that situation.. even if it's not the right thing to do, when trying to subdue the guy, would you honestly just blow it off if he grabbed you down there?? i certainly would probably do the same to the fuqer, even though it's not by the book... it was just a reaction to that IMO

Jandree- that kid is mentally retarded. Even if, while handcuffed, (which by the way puts the detainee's hands right at policeman's groin level, and the cop stands behind him so its lined up anyway) the mentally retarded kids hands touched the cops weiner, there's no need to be slamming his already damaged head/brain into a cop car then punching him repeatedly in the face. BTW, I love your sig!

Go to your local DMV or the place that issues licenses and such. They should have your state's driver's handbook available for free. I just got my license renewed and got one to study the road signs before the test. Anyhow, I brought it home and read through the whole thing. It tells you what colors your lights have to be and has other useful info about a lot of things like this that come up on the forums.

Yes, stock is red.

My story...I didn't get the ticket, but I almost did. This cop pulls me over and asks for my paperwork, you know, the norm. Then he tells me to step out of the vehicle and walk with him to my trunk. So, I ask him what the reason for pulling me over is. He says "You just ran that yellow light back there!" I said: "What?!?! Are you kidding me? How can you run a yellow light? And, as I remember it, it was green." He said: "It turned yellow while you were in the intersection." I was like: "Whatever, just write the ticket and I'll see you in court, sir." Then he's like: "And, you weren't wearing your seatbelt." So I said: "Can I show you something?" He said sure and we walked to my door. As soon as I open it the automatic seatbelt moves forward with the belt still attached. He was like: "I was talking about the lap belt." So I said: "Oh, did you notice that from inside your cruiser, sir?" So he said: "Never mind, just drive carefully and go straight home." I said ok and cruised to the local bar, where I was headed in the first place.

Alright I have a couple of those stories. One I was driving from Cali, where I liveto Minnestoa with my hubby who had just had knee surgury. Going through Utah it was sunny clear no rain or snow. Perfect conditions I was doing 75mph in a 70 mph zone. This cop pulled me over and gave me a ticket. Mind you there was NO ONE else on the road and the conditions were perfect. The good one was at the bottom of my hill there is a, what i know now to be a yeild sign, I didn't come to a complete stop at it because my brakes and tranny were jacked up and Honda refused to fix them at the time. Anyhow to make a long story short I got a ticket for not stopping completely at a yeild sign.

Damn- 2cute- you just reminded me- a similar thing happened to me at a yield, I slowed and went through it, late night in a residential neighborhood with no other cars around. I got out of that one in court to, by presenting the fact that there was NO OTHER CAR FOR ME TO YIELD TO! Some cops don't understand that yeild doesn't mean stop.

my license plate was on the wrong side...
(registeration tag was on the front license plate instead of the rear)
I took it out when I wash the car and I guess I forgot about it when I put it back, and didn't check...
so cop pulled me over for not having a tag (in LAX, went pickup my friend, very busy and hard to pull over)
then I show him the tags on the front, and explain to him what happened. he gave me a ticket anyway. heh.

on the other hand, when I was speeding at 80+ on a 45 and got pulled over. (I pulled over before the cop even flashed me, cuz I know he got me.) I smiled at him and he smiled at me and after a lil talk he let me go...

I knew that "yield" meant full stop when other vehicles are present when I was like 16...

I try not to engage someone in extensive conversation during a stop. I won't argue with people, nor do I have road side debates--they're dangerous for me. I just say "license, reg, insurance" I take the documents, look at them, and either give them back and say "have a nice day" or go back and write something up. Half the time I let people go, the other half I write it up. The people who start the arguments are usually the ones who get the tickets...

If you read what I wrote, you would see that I was implying an agreement with you. We all know that yield means only come to a stop when there is oncoming traffic...so that's what I was saying.

I am very respectful to officers when they pull me over. I always address them as Sir and I never argue. I only ask why he pulled me over if they don't tell me. I like to know the reason. If its obvious, like 80 in a 60 I don't even bother asking.

Ya know it seems like the city cops tend to be more leniant and talkative than troopers....i've been stopped and ticketed by both....only 2 tickets so far...3rd stop was to tell me my license plate light was out, and to make sure i didn't have drugs...i was nice, he thanked me for my curtesy and we got out pretty fast....but the troopers really make me **** my pants guys, i mean baaaaad.......i dunno why i'm so afraid.....i don't speed that much anymore, but still. Are any of you guys like that too?

I got pulled over once at the beach in my old pick-up. I had people in the back and was going about 10mph and passed a cop. He pulled me over and said that if you have people in the back of a pick-up that a persons head must not be taller than the top of the truck while they are riding in the back. I told him that I had no idea that was a law and was very nice to him and he let me off with a warning.

Straightedge...I'm an officer on Long Island...I think we can write summonses for that, but if the university had regulations prohibiting rollerblading on the property, State University Police reserve the right to act accordingly...

About 2 years back on the way home from work in my 3000gt, got pulled over (not speeding by the way) by a good ol VA state trooper who went out of his way to turn around in the median of the highway to give me a ticket for having a graduation tassle hanging from the rear view mirror. he said it was obstruction of view/illegal equipment or something. $60 for that crap.

I try to be as well... The one time I was even pulled over by this detective in an unmarked car for doing 80 in a 50(Mustang was on my *** and it pissed me off...) Anyways, he pulled me over and gave me a lecture and said "Now I can't ticket you, however I can easily call for an officer to do so. Just so you know this would've been 5pts and large fine. I'm gonna let you go, however. You were very polite and I appreciate that, and that's about the only thing stopping me from calling it in." phew, I can't believe I got outa that... my *** deserved it there! but anyways, cops already have an extremely tough job from the looks of it and I have a lot of respect for them and what they do, if there's one easy part to their day, I'd hope it's dealing w/me when if they pull me over....

Well, I was at a stop light behind several cars...

The light turned green and we all started going forward. The car in front of me got stuck in the middle of the intersection because of the traffic ahead of him. Well, I did the right thing and stopped at the line. The light was still green, and the traffic ahead of me was not going anywhere.

When the light turned red, the white camaro was still ahead of me stuck in the middle of the intersection. That's when one officer walked up to the camaro and one officer walked up to me and wrote me a ticket, for blocking the intersection. I HAD NO WHERE TO GO!!!!

I was at a light making a left turn. Arrow turns green so I go, immediately to be pulled over by a cop. My first time ever gettin pulled over, so I just panicked and stopped. He got all pissed and said "WHEN AN OFFICER PULLS U OVER U GO TO THE RIGHT SIDE OF THE ROAD!" I explained to him how I didn't think he pulled me over, cuz I didn't think I was doing anytihng wrong. The he got to the point. Your turn signals are white and I'm giving you a ticket. No warning, no nothing. I have the chrome sedan altezzas. I used the stock bulb as well, which everyone knows is yellow in the first place. Then he began to walk around my car and find something to ticket me with. He goes "WHAT COLOR ARE THOSE FOGLIGHTS?" I told him they were yellow, and he said "TURN THEM ON!" They were yellow, and the thing that really got to me was that they weren't even on. How is he gonna try and ticket me for something I wasn't even using? Well me and father discussed that it would be too much trouble to take it to court, so I just paid the $60 ticket. I took a picture that night with all the lights off in my garage. It clearly shows that my signal is yellow in the dark. Needless to say, I did get amber turn signals just so that wouldn't happen again. I got pulled over again the next night for doing 60 in a 45, but that cop was nice and let me go. Haven't gotten pulled over since.
