bad mileage on highway???

i got civic 2k2 coupe si/ex and my mileage on highway on SHORT TRIPS is bad. i got roughly 110-120KM. i would have quarter tank and hit the highway for 20 -30km and it would drop 2-3 ticks. i went on a 600km trip once going 120km cruise mostly and got 36mpg. its kinda odd but why? anyone else notice this?

also why do the american rate the mileage more than candians? if my math isn't wrong. canadians estimate local at 8.2L/100km. 8.2L=2.16gallons. 100km=60miles. 60/2.16=27mpg. the american site states the mileage for my model at 33mpg local. why is this?

thanks and happy driving.

Canadian MPG estimates use Imperial gallons, whereas US MPG estimates use American gallons. And I believe an Imperial gallon is larger than a US gallon.

Man, the Imperial system sucks. With all its quarts, ounces, gallons... so freaking confusing. Why can't you Americans use metric like the rest of the world?

it would be so much easier if we were metric... then i could understand what the hell the other WHOLE FLIPPIN WORLD is talking about instead of trying to convert measurements and getting frustrated so i just give up-

I find that I get the same or better mileage driving in the city as opposed to the highway. I usually drive about 80mph and the engine is spinning @3900rpms going that rate of speed. I don't know how you could get that great of gas mileage with the damn engine buzzing so loud it's pathetic.
