Eclipse vs Trans AM
Eclipse vs Trans AM
While sitting at a red light during a beer run last night, a early 90's eclipse pulled up, and started to rev his engine. The outside of the car didn't have anything done to it. He had an exhaust and intake for sure. Inside his car I saw a few gauge pods, but overall it was not a head turner. I was with my friend who drives a 99 Trans Am, with a few mods. Well, on green, my friend spun tires and that allowed the eclipse to hang for about 2 seconds, but after that the Trans Am left that Eclipse in the rear view. I was laughing my @ss off. Sometimes I wish I would've bought a Trans AM. They are fu cking fast.
my bet was on the 5.7L... first of all, the 3800's are by NO means slow, but there are a lot that can beat them... Second, the 5.7's are the choice that most owners go with for the TransAm's. 5.7L trans-ams, camaros, and firebirds will pretty much eat up anything on the road(except Vette's, some TT's, and the occasional S2000 if its driver is really on the mark for that night) They run 13's the 1/4 If it wasn't for the inability to drive GM F-bodies in the snow around here(RWD), man would I ever be tearing it up with that bad *** V8!

Imports- high resell value, hold up longer, better mileage, better fuel economy, built stronger.
When you shut the door on an import, you hear whoomph. When you shut the door on a GM, or Ford, you hear, slam.
Sorry guys, but the truth hurts. GM is going for money++ and sacrificing quality. A car is more than an ENGINE! GET THAT STRAIGHT YOU STUPID CRUSTANG DRIVERS
Cheers

seriously though, i completely agree with you! I gotta 93 Cavalier Z24 right now w/a 3.1L, and although it has a good bit of torque(185lb/ft), it doesn't understand the concept of refinement It's falling apart too, just replaced the clutch and a lot of other sh*t on it, (but thankfully dad hooked me up with a $300 clutch job since he works at a GM dealer ) Because of all of this bs, I'm getting a 7th gen as soon as I have enough cash to do so! While the Civic isn't as jumpy off the line as my Z, it runs same if not better 1/4 I think, stock for stock, and the Civic has an engine half the size! hehehe (test drove a 2k2 last fall). Anyways, can't WAIT to get into a Honda

yeah, I've thought about getting the Si, and I'm still not sure about whether or not I like the looks of it... maybe because everywhere it's advertised, it's in that puke yellow... if i would end up getting one of those, it'd def be black or white! Here's the thing about the RSX... first of all, they're startin to get outa the price range for me since I'm still in school. Also, because the dealership my dad works for also owns a Honda dealer, he can probably get a couple hundred to $1000 cut off the price because he knows ppl... the dealership owns no Acura dealers
If I get the EX, I MIGHT be able to swing it around Christmas time, but the Si would def have to wait for spring so I could save up more $$$ to put down on it. Either way, I got months to decide for sure.... We'll see
Maybe consider a Protege 5. Good looks, awesome handling, good mileage, lotsa space, and plenty of mods. Bell engineering also has a turbo kit for it running 8psi giving it a total of 210 HP (flywheel).

I had a 96 V6 firebird and just to name a few problems I had were both window motors died, power door lock switch broke, remote entry buttons would wear out after 6 months, cracked transmission casing, cracked rear differential, paint fell off the door guards, rear emblem faded to a pink color even after replacing it, and the power seat would push me up and forward while I was fn driving. That car had a pretty decent engine but I doubt it would make it much further than 120,000 miles. Oh and if you think the 2k1 civic has a wide gate on the shifter wait till you drive a firebird. You gotta jump in the backseat to shift into 2nd, 4th, and reverse, LOL.
i've got a better one! lol, I've seen a video of a 5th gen Civic hatchback smoking a friggen C5 Vette! If you have Limewire, make a search for something like "civic eats vette" and you should get a responce or two, it's pretty interesting
Thats pretty imbaressing man. I bet it wasn't a GS-X though. Those things with all wheel drive can launch like mad, and the stock engine can handle alot of boost without any work done, to probably hang on to the lead it got from the begining.
Got to give props to your friend though. I almost bought a Formula a few years back from a friend but couldn't afford the gas.

Imports- high resell value, hold up longer (not with the way children are driving...at least kids with truly fast cars dont beat on them too much), better mileage, better fuel economy, built stronger (ok thats just a plain no, a honda rear ended me once, i got a slight paint chip the guy destroyed his hood and messed up the front of his car).

you have sparco racing seats and a wing so high i doubt you can see out of the rear window when you are in reverse. thats just a shame
I test drove cavaliar before I got my civic... which was before i knew how to drive stick
this was just before graduation and i had no idea that i had a new car coming my way
any way i test drove it and for some reason it didnt seem worth it to me...
the civic seems more solid and rides a little smoother than cavalier just my thoughts..
peace

the 2.4 Cavi's (3rd gen Z24), are SOO much more refined, smoother, and powerful when compared to the 2.2L base. My friend had an auto 96 Z for a while and it rode mint like it was the day it came off the lot. However, dispite it riding smooth, it's domestic qualities finally shined through... He told me about a week after he sold it, the kid that bought it took it to the track, and fuqin blew the engine
My friend now owns a 96 Civic Hatchback and he is swapping a GSR engine into it within the next two years

LOL...do you even have any performance mods? If not, (even if you do), you're car is still SLOW, especially when compared to a trans am.
Maybe you were joking...I sure hope so.
PS - before you call me a chevy troll, I drive a VW, so don't even bother.
Trans Ams, camaros, mustangs, etc are all fun for like a year when you get them, and THEN you realize why people told you not to buy one. Poor quality, low reliablility and an arm and a leg to insure if your a young guy like me. For the price of a loaded brand new Trans Am you can get a better import, new or used. For the price of a fully loaded new Trans Am I'd go out and buy a used BMW E36 M3. Dont get me wrong, Ive always loved american muscle cars, but they just fall apart and die way too easily.
