Yep you have to upgrade the ECU to remove it.

Jandre22 is right... Do you think Honda put it there for no reason? I guarantee that if you drive your car so hard that you want to get rid of the rev limiter, you WILL blow your engine... Amazing how people have disregard for a 15k investment...

As a mechanical engineer, I have to say that this is the most A$$inine comment I have ever heard on this board.

Perhaps if you asked if there was any way to remove the front brakes entirely...that would have topped it.

Even hard core racers keep redline limiters on their cars, it keeps the engine from blowing up (which you will surely do in about 10 minutes).

I sincerely hope you meant the governor.

As to the car hitting the redline limiter at 7200, it actually hits it at actual redline, Honda gauges are always "optimistic" but the ECU always tells the truth.

O.K. let me try this once again, if I get the upgraded ECU from jetchip does it remove my rev limiter, I didn't mention anywhere that I wanted to remove it I was just asking if it did. Crashoveride said it did and I was just curious if that was true or not.

I thought this was a place to help people out and answer question people had not be a d!ck to everyone.

Also does anyone on this site have this upgrade?

jetchip.com............

I would place money that they will not remove the limiter unless you pay extra....

There site is very vague, they list honda -> civic and then they have a p/n....

Sketchy because there is no model years...

You should mail them with your questions.

I have always felt that the ecu cuts in too early. Anyhow, I bounce off of it on occasion in 2nd gear so it has saved my bumm a few times. I don't know what it is, usually I can tell by the sound of the engine that it is time to shift but this honda just doesn't take to me like my past ones. It always seems to still be pulling and then the fuel cuts off! I wish they would have given us another 500 rpms or so.

Oh, and the people that like to tell others how stupid and ignorant they are, you need to lay off. Some people know very little about cars and may at times ask questions that stupify some of us. However, these questions should be answered with respect and consideration for those that ask them.

just for the record, i didn't mean to be a jerk in the first place... i just didnt want his engine to go BOOM because he got rid of an essential. Also, i'm not trying to promote people being mean to others here, I'd LOVE to have everyone supportive of each other, but unfortunately that's just the way this site can get. Anyways, i misunderstood your question when i said that, forgive me, I just was trying to prevent your $15g engine from goin kaboom

If you're using an aftermarket ignition with a spark (safer for the engine) rev limiter, then removing the factory fuel cut rev limiter isin't such a bad idea.

I appreciate the responses and thank you again. No hard feelings. Just for the record what I meant by " Thr Rev Limiter.....Sux...." was I don't feel like our car is out of power at 7200 and that sucks because I was racing a friend and I wasn't watching the limiter and it started bouncing back and that sucks due to the fact that I lost because of it. So therefore I was wondering if I could get more power and better performance out of a chip and if it got rid of the limiter and/or it just moved it a little higher or somthing in that matter. So you can't go any higher in RPM at all or the motor will blow?

usually, you can safely go a LIL higher, maybe a couple hundred RPM, but over that, even if you don't blow your engine on the spot, you're EXTREMELY cutting down on its life... so if you find a way, go for it, but for you wallet's sake, be careful
