Drove the S2000 tonight for the first time.

Boy was I dissapointed. I think I went in with my expectations too high.

My same hookup who got me the first drive with the 2k2 Si called me up and let me know that a 01 Silver/Red int S2k had just come in and knowing that I never drove one before said to come on in and give it a beating. Finally I got my hands on the car I wanted so badly but just cant afford due to the insurance..after driving it I have to say Im happier with my RSX.
The 9k Redline is great dont get me wrong...however you get basically no power until VTEC engagement, just like my old Si. Ive heard about people dumping the clutch at 6-7krpm, no joke, you really have to do that to get some power...I tried twice and it seemed to go. Once VTEC engages however it screams to 9k. Interior felt alright, however the plastic window in the back I didnt like too much. I heard its being replaced with a glass window for 03. I will say theres no feeling like jumping on the highway with the top down redlining 2nd gear at 9krpm...that was cool. However I think my K20A2 has spoiled me with low end torque.

No more wishing I owned an S2000 for me

A) You dont dump the clutch @ 6K, you slip it.
B) This car wasnt meant to drag race. If you are driving it right, on what it was meant to be driven on (ie a REAL race track) it will OWN, and never fall out of VTEC anyway.
C) That engine still produces more torque then the K20, so I dont get it.

....And then there's the CompTech supercharger to alleviate the torque blues...plus it's RWD...I need to test drive one 'cause it's one car I would love to own/lease.

It may have more torque at the top end once VTEC kicks in but it just seems to get up quicker from 1-6krpm in my Type S than it did in the S2000. I drove the car for a good half an hour....like I said I think I just went in with my expectations too high.

up to 3k RPms.. it's like driving a DX/LX 7th gen...then start getting some power..up around 5500Rpms...WHOA!! it's an open top roadster....it's meant for high RPM driving...It does have more torque at a higher RPM than a k20..but up to 3k RPMS..torque is quite low on these puppies..But heck..it's still a 4banger so don't expect to tear up some pavement off the line....I'd sell my left kidney and right nut for one..

Cheers

I see it in the numbers. look at the torque CURVES, not just the numbers. the s2k reaches its peak at 7000rpm, while the type S reaches it a little under 6000. also, notice that the rsx-s' torque curve is nowhere near as steep as the s2000's.

I love the s2000, I don't mind the low power, supercharger fixes that. if you can afford the s2000, you can afford the blower for it.

yup...just look at the torque curves.

I never said it wasnt a good car...I just said it wasnt what I expected it to be.

Exactly, look at the curves. the S2000 DOES reach its HIGHER peak torque at a higher RPM then the K20, HOWEVER, if you look att the curve before that, the S2000 is always at least a few ft lbs ahead all through out.

Im lining up both at about 3000rpm...the Type S is ahead of the S2k in Torque by about 20 ft/lbs. The Type S is around 130 where as the S2k is at 110...Dyno only shows peak Torque for the S2k at 131. I dont see where its ahead all through out.

this guy obviously doesn't know what he's talking about..
the s2000 is a high end speed car..... it won't get power till u hit high rpm.. itz like a motorcycle..

and ur wrong about the rear glass being plastic.. 02 come with rear glass not plastic. and saying that 03 is gonna be change. well ur a year behind on news....
basically no power until VTEC engagement, just like my old Si.
thats what I said if you would have read.

Also I found out from s2ki that the 02 does have rear glass, i had heard conflicting stories about 02 and 03. either way I tested an 01 with Plastic.

the s2k and the rsx are both great cars, but the s2k is definitely faster... both are made by the same company but one was designed as a roadster and is made to be fast, hence the larger price, so common sense would say the s2k is faster...

Try going with a stock type S and stock S2k from a 10mph roll. The s2k will pull slightly on the type S BEFORE 6000rpm. And at 6000rpm, it just starts to walk away.....

greddy turbo's aren't thatr great and very expensive too...there are many other brands with better performing turbo's and less expensive ones too
