Love that howl at 4K rpm and above!

I got a 2k1 EX and one of the things that sold me on this car is the awesome tone you hear right about 4K and all the way to redline. The engine sounds like it loves to be pushed past 4 and I think it gets a lil grumpy If I don't do it at least a few times in a day. Any other engines besides Hondas have that lovely switch over aggressive sound the more you wind it out?

you'll get a louder, more throttle sound to the intake when you slap on a cold air or short ram.. the short ram is louder I think.
if you just remove your intake resonator.. you'll hear something similiar to it...

ya theres lots of engines that have that sound stock most are quite expensive like my favorite porsche but one similar to ours is acura and toyota once u get an intake it sounds a lot better then u will want to hear it all the time

i love my engine, how it loves high engine speeds. hate going home (CO) in it though cause of the horsepower loss, still sounds great though. also love the kick of the VTEC at around 4500, wooohooo!! had my car for a year and lovin it.
Thats so true, there's nothing like the sound of a honda DOHC Vtec engine no matter which one it is. I personally would have gone all motor with my civic but it's only a SOHC, if I had a duelcam i would have because i love the sound so much it send chills down my spine!!!!! But i would deffinetly get a injen or aem Cold Air and not a short ram, the sound is the same but the gains are more with a cold-air. I personally have an injen and i love it!!!!!!!!!!!!!!1

Yes, the DOHC engines OWN SOHC Civic blocks. If you think that the engine howls nicely after 4,000 RPMs, you should hear the engine of say a GS-R...
Up to 4k, it sounds loud and aggressive.
Up to 6k, it sounds even louder.
After 7k, it sounds like it's gonna blow up!
(I remember Neo saying this about his old Si engine and recently, I got to hear the GS-R's engine reach over 7k, and you're very right.)But...
Nothing beats the sound of an Integra Type R engine IMO, except maybe the s2000. Plus their stock exhausts sound very nice but the sound of their engines are:
honda's J-series engines (accord v6, CL/TL, CL-S/TL-S, odyssey), though SOHC, also sound incredible with intakes on them. my friend had some sort of SRI on his CL-S. that thing roared at anything over 3k!
I love the intake sound of my brothers 2.2L '90 Accord. Above 4k rpm, the thing roars and rumbles like it's a freakin' v8 under the hood. My Civic with the AEM intake purrs in comparison.

I dunno how great of a sound it could be if it sounds like the engine is gonna blow up. My last car was a 3.8L V6 Firebird and it sounded that way past 4700rpm, made all kinds of racket when it was revved up and it didnt feel to happy doing it. Even though the firebird had more power I enjoy driving the civic more, the smooth transmission and engine just make it a joy to drive.

Nah stock intake, what kinda of sound will I get if I change to a cold air intake? Maybe it sounds different on the non vtec engine, you have an EX?[hr]
