thats a normal price for it....think about it, you have to remove the wheels, take the stock strut off the spring, put the new spring on and bolt back up. sometime the bolts can be rusted or very hard to remove. thats a average 45 minutes a shock. believe me i know. my old 99 civic was a hassel, and my car was out of commisson for a week.
The front spring installation was easy, but the bushings in the rear were rusted and locked shut. Not to mention I snapped both rear bolts. Thats alot of dilling out the new bolts (and if you dont have carbid drill bits, you are going to burn bits out in a heart beat). Also I had to replace the upper and lower control arms, and honda took a few days get the new parts in stock.
I found the front to be the most challenging but overall, it's not the bad to take the struts off. Just make sure you have all the tools required to do it. Like a tie-rod separator, spring compressor, torque wrench, metric hex-keys, and if you have large socket wrenches, you're set! I think it took me and a buddy 6 hours to install his coilovers. Half the time was spent trying to find the tools needed.

If you dont' know what your doing, I wouldn't recommend it. It's very dangerous and you could lose a limb. You shouldn't get charged over $100 for them to get professionally done.
