just to balance things... i'll throw in some FACTS about me...

- i live in minneapolis, minnesota.
- i drive a honda civic (1993 saturn sl2 until august 2001)
- i have "white" skin.
- i like cops.

run-ins with law enforcement:

- october 1997, witnessed thieves breaking in to neighbor's car. called police, gave descriptions, suspects were caught 2 hours later with stereo, cell phone, and briefcase, all belonging to neighbor.

- nov 2000, stopped by highway patrol for doing 78 in a 55. mid-20s white officer issued a verbal warning.

- nov 2000, stopped by local police for being at a park after-hours. (10:30, closed at 10:00.) was talking with my girlfriend, both of us in front seats, clothes on. fat 20ish white officer proceeds to check my eyes and tounge, questions me 3 times if i've "been drinking or smoking anything". i've never done drugs, and had a few beers... in italy, april 1999. this officer was an *sshole. unable to do anything except kick us out.

- nov 2000, stopped by local police for attempting to steal a large helium baloon on 150' of rope from a car dealership. older (50+) white officer let me keep baloon, he hated dealership

- nov 2001, stopped by local police for being at park after-hours. (11:00, closed at 9:00.) was "talking" with my girlfriend, both of us in back seats, no pants on (either of us). mid-30s white officer advises we find another place such as hotel room, unless we would like to explain situation to a judge

- january 2002 -- may 2002, made several miscellaneous 911 calls reporting drunk drivers, distracted drivers, maniac drivers.

- may 2002, witnessed a hit-and-run. bicyclist hit by large, 1980s lincoln town car/cadillac, 3 passengers + driver. gave info to police, no follow-up.

- june 2002, involved in road-rage altercation... guy drives straight thru red light, i slam brakes and hit horn, he stops his truck and jumps out, swearing and threatening to "kill me". chased me, pinned my car against curb, tried to open locked doors and got his arm pinched in my window. dumbass. witnessed by 2 other drivers. called police and followed him as he chased another car that stopped. after i was begged to stop my car by the 911 operator, an officer showed up within 5 minutes to hear the story. st. paul police are investigating; still no follow-up, minnesota drivers beware of newer silver ford f-150 4x4, license #EWU 363 (MN). psycho freak.

okay, maybe i'm just a lucky SOB, but i still like cops.

Yeah I have had my run ins with the cops also and I feel female cops are the worst I don't know of anyone who gets away with a warning by them. But I will say the cops in my town keep me out of the stupid town I would rather stay home then put up with them. So I feel your pain I hate the cops in my town also.

They're human and therefore not perfect...if only more of them realized this and stopped being such ******. The good thing is that not all of them are bad, in fact, most are cool as long as you show them some respect.

Me too Except the better looking ones are not usually out on patrol...at least not in TX. The best looking female cops I have been stopped or questioned by are by far in CA and NY.

Cops get payed to do a job. Leave them alone.

In Texas, you can actually be arrested for not signaling your intent. It is the one standard moving violation that you can go to jail for. That was in the code as of 96. Anybody who doesn't know how to use a turn signal is an idiot anyways and should get a ticket.

People who don't know how to utilize a turn signal cause accidents........

I should add that I am a little more intense now about stupid drivers. Washington seems to have a high ratio of them. In Dallas, the drivers are insane, but insane is predictable, stupidity isnt.

You can be arrested for any vehicle and traffic violation, as per the Supreme Court ruling last year. If you recall, a woman from Oregon was arrested for failing to wear her seatbelt. A ticket is in lieu of an arrest; the officer has the authority to handcuff you, bring you to the precinct and then release you on a summons.

Wow this thread is still going after the weekend? Well I can add a story I guess. I got pulled over doing WELL over 110mph on the 8W on my way back from Arizona this weekend. Conversation is as follows:

Cop: Do you kow why I pulled you over?
Me: No
Cop: The speed limit is 75, how fast were you going?
Me: I dunno, maybe 80.
Cop: Laughs. Can I see you licence and registration?
Me: Here

10 minutes pass

Cop: here you go (licence and reg) try to keep it under 100, have a nice day.

Now had this happened anywhere besides the middle of the desert I'm sure I would have gotten a ticket, but am quite thankful I didn't. I have to say, I have good luck with police. A mix of playing stupid and being really nice will get you further than you think.

Well, I live in SA and never really had a problem with the police enforcement here. The papers are backing the city when in comes time to renegotiate and give bad articles about police which are totally inaccurate. Is no wonder why everyone doesn't like them here. the Ex Chief was so corrupt, he was stealing from a goverment sponsered program back in the day but the papers loved him because he would get kickbacks and wouldn't care to negotiate for a higher rate of pay for sapd. My brother works East side patrol here which is hands down, the worst side of town, there are places that you don't go at night, one place in particular, "The Hill" which well, is pretty bad. there is so much violent crime there, my brother doesn't remember when he gave out a traffic violation. He has had the most felony arrests in his whole sub-station, between "daylight,b-shift or dogwatch". however, not to go off, hey even gets upset at the way other officers act. He mentions that they are not always on the up and up and they can be *******s, but my brother lays his life on the line everytime he goes to work. Not many people can say that. I can't stand people who have a bad attitude towards police "in general". Shows the character they are made of.

Alpha, before you go off questioning someones intelligence, or lack thereof, you need to read all of the facts of the story. it was 3:30am in the morning...not a single car on the road. i'm sure someone of your high level of intelligence could find a seemingly possible way to cause an accident under such traffic conditions, but not i.

disclaimer: this is based on my experiences. if you have a problem with it, pack your bags, come to san antonio, and we can talk about it.

why are some...errr MOST cops so f*cking egotistical?! i swear you give some little a pr!ck, one who was probably the class nerd all throughout high school, a little badge and he runs around on some neo-**** power trip. i'm sick and tired of cops pulling me over for BULLSH!T just cause they have nothing better to do. f*ck the bullshit, if they are going to sterotype me because of the car i drive, im going to sterotype them because of the experiences ive had with them. i feel it's fair, don't you? i'm normally a calm and collected guy, but today i had a revelation and i felt i had to share this with you guys. (i'm pretty damn sure that i am hitting a familiar note with some of you). granted there are good/moral cops out there (ie quick), but i have yet to run into one.

but because cops look at my car and are suddenly overwhelmed with an un-nerving sense of *****-envy No, i dont think they'd be envious of some child whos car can only dream of being as fast as their cop cars

, i have to exhaust all of my resources to take care of 3 insane tickets. in an earlier post, i described one such ticket, but i dont feel like looking for it right now. i will just let one of you guys (most likely somoene who spends about 93% of his/her waking hours on this site reading EVERY post just to see how many faults can be found) dig it up. it frustrates me because i try to be a moral citizen and uphold the laws (thus making their job easier imo), but then officer billy-club-in-anus pulls me over for using my turn signal only halfway through the turn at 3:30 in the morning. wtf is that bs? well, im about to wrap this up cause i have to save my energy cause i know i'm going to have to put someone in their place within 10 minutes...btw, venting is very theraputic, some of you should try it

ps- i would like to thank the moderators for having this forum cause i would rather be saying this here than in a courtroom
Who the f$#@@$# cares what time it was man? I don't understand what the problem is? For me, it's almost like second nature. I don't even have to think about it. When you make a turn into a lane, on a street, whatever...use your freaking turn signal...it's not difficult.

As for all the cop haters out there, yes there are some real ****** out there, but for the most part, they are decent guys trying to do a job. They make absolute $hit for money, and they get shot at, verbally abused, and they see the worst society has to throw at them on a DAILY basis.

These "I hate cops" or "I hate pigs" threads pop up all the time, and it's always some n00b posting them, and this n00b is always getting a ticket because he was doing something retarded.

You should have figured out that starting a thread like this was going to get you hammered on. You started the thread, now take the heat like a man.

i deal with cops on a daily basis being an insurance adjsuter and I have to say most cops are good guys, but with most of them (especially the younger ones) they are on a power trip....they know they have the power and they use it a little to much......BUt the one think I have noticed is like 90% of them are so lazy, i mean have you ever tried to read a police report, its like they never passed 2nd grade, and when you try to call them and talk to them about an accident its like there so busy and your wasting their time, give me a break man, your a traffic cop, not some not some drug bustin training day cop.....

i dont have a problem with cops but i sometimes think that they overabuse their authority... like calling 1 or 2 other cars for some guy with a burnt out taillight... lol... now c'mon...

there is this place around here called "the pike" where friday and saturday nights are cruise nights.... now there are alot of cars that cruise there and for every 100 cars there is 1 cop... now when u get one cop pulling over some guy 2 others show up. its like jesus man, u cant handle it on your own? sometimes its like the cops just pull u over for ***** and giggles... i dunno... maybe its just me but i think they kinda go a little out of their way to "make the quota". but they are all nice to me so far so i likes em...

I find your comments to be insulting and a generalization. You are implying that the majority of police officers are lazy. This is simply untrue. Would you like it if I said that I find 90% of insurance adjusters to be lazy? As far as your "never passing second grade comment," this too is a generalization. Most departments require an officer to have 60 college credits; an associates degree. In my department (a major NY department), 92% of all officers have a bachelor's degree. In New York State, officers complete a form called an MV-104A for accidents. There is no space for us to give our comments, or an editorial for that matter. So, I really don't understand how you make the assertion that we never passed second grade. Your post contains numerous syntax and grammar errors, so I really wouldn't point the finger.

There are 10% of bad apples in this profession, as is the case in any profession.. I resent your generalizations.

As every other officer has previously stated, quotas are unlawful.

To address your comments, officers frequently call for a cover due to the unpredictable nature of a traffic stop. Anything can happen. Officers have been assaulted or even killed on routine stops. It's nothing personal if additional units show up to back their fellow officer. Calling additional cars does not constitute an abuse of authority by any standards; it is simply meant to enhance officer safety.

I'm white, I got pulled over a couple weekends ago by a black cop for going 76 in a 60. Did he pull me over for being white? No, he pulled me over because I was breaking the law, just like most of us who do get pulled over.

And for those of you who do hate cops, when someone in your family is killed, assaulted, raped, whatever, be sure not to call them because you hate them so much. Yeah, it's harsh, but if you're going to make up a blanket statement, stand by it, or stfu.

sivikchik is right ..... I don't need any of my fellow officers to back me up on a traffic stop.... next time I pull over a car with 8 bangers in it I will just rush up there by myself and not even bring my flashlight just to make sure they all have their seatbelts on..... hey sivikchik just think if you were an officer and had to walk up to some persons car that is already pissed because you pulled them over and you can't see inside and have no idea what they are going to do..... now honestly are you still going to act immature and say you don't see the point in me having more then one unit with me or will you agree that is the smart thing to do?

Well, in defense of these guys complaining about Honda drivers being treated unfairly, I used to drive a Honda Prelude when I was younger, I got four tickets in four months. Then I was driving a Totyota Corolla for a few years...Four years later, not a single ticket. I own a Honda Civic for about six weeks and sure as shiet...I sent a check to the court house today for a $295 ticket. WTF? In certan circles...like with scientific theory's and what not...it's something to think about. Plus, the civic is not a fast car...it's just a twenty something in a lowered car...oh, must be trouble.

qcksilver give me a break man, thats my opinion and I'm intitled to it......And ya, you could say that insurance adjusters are lazy as well, and you know what, thats your opinion and your entitled to it as well.......as for the lazy coment, here in Ontario Canada, all you need to be a police officer is a high school degree, and it shows on most of them, and like I said most of them are good guys. Take a little critism man, I'm sorry but there are a lot of crappy cops, just like there are a lot of crappy insurance adjusters......you act like your profession is godly or something. I'm sure your a good cop and the way you hold yourself it looks like you are very professional and fair, but in my experiences cops won't give you the time of day because there so busy .............

I have a lot more respect for cops than I do for insurance adjusters. The insurance nerds are not putting their lives on the line on a daily basis to protect you and me.

I disagree with you DM. There are not a lot of crappy cops, just like there are not a lot of crappy insurance adjusters. I think most people would agree that in any profession, 90% of the individuals which comprise that profession do a good job. I guess it's different in your area, but in my jurisdiction the accident report speaks for itself and is very, very simple to read with diagrams and all. Each party involved in a reportable accident including the responding officer files a report with the state.

Anyone with a high school degree should be able to put sentences together properly and use correct syntax, so maybe it's possible you've just seen some of the most poorly written accident reports out there.

That's totally off base. I think the comments were relevant to the topic. People need to read other people's posts more carefully and to conduct themselves more respectfully.
