I know earlier I said I never got a ticket, but a little fyi, I am white and I was pulled over, in a mustang, for turning around in someones driveway. cop said it was a suspicious act. point being, I am white, the cop was white, some of them but not all of them are @sses and racist. I think mostly what quicksilver has been telling us is don't give the cops a reason and they won't (yes, think about it, maybe the clothes your wearing can make you look suspicious! If I'm wearing big baggie jeans, t shirt, and a trench coat through dillards and being all loud like "hey look at me" with a bunch of friends doing the same in the middle of summer, I expect security to tag me regardless of actually being innocent.)

NEVER once did i say all cops are bad, or they envy our cars. thats just an asinine comment to make. i would never generalize, because i would be no better than the people who generalize me and others. plus for someone to say it is because of how i dress or what i do is ridiculous. i wear a suit to work everyday so you cannot tell me it is because of how i dress. people need to realize i'm not saying all cops are bad, i'm just saying the ones i have run into have been less than ustanding. that is all. for people to gloss this over like i'm some idiot with a rogue opinion would be a great mistake. darkcivic knows what goes on, so does syon2k1, and for people to post things that say that i am generalizing and saying that cops envy my car is the most ridiculous statement i have ever heard. borderline retarded.

of course there are going to be instances where mustangs get pulled over, i am jsut saying that in the context of San Diego, and darkcivic can back me up on this one, it is rare that mustangs are pulled over in the context of the race scene. extremely rare, but i'm not saying it doesnt happen. read the police reports in the newspapers. out of a possible 400 tickets that were issued on a saturday night a few weeks ago for race related incidents, less than 20 were given to domestic cars. and they are out in force, 'stangs and camaros run just as much as the imports if not more. back me up on this darkcivic.

who are the real racists then? did i ever once say that white cops were racists? i said that the ones i had dealt with tended to be. you are not me, you have not had my experiences, as i have not had yours, so you cannot tell me what is true or not true. and i would hope you are not insinuating that I am a racist. that would not be accurate at all.

I was talking to the person that originally posted this inspecta not you.... if you read the opening statement he talks about ***** envy from civics I was just stating my point that neither myself or any of my other officers would pull someone over for the simple fact we are jealous of the car they drive.... doing that is almost as stupid as saying you only got pulled over for being black and that the fact you were speeding or whatever else you did played no part in the officer pulling you over be a man and suck it up ... if you didnt do anything wrong then respect him for trying to do his job and you dont have anything to worry about do you that is if you didnt do anything...

this may sound like I am lying but a friend of mine I went to court with a couple of months ago went to court at a nearby close-minded town, he was caught for speeding on is streetbike, 62 in a 55...???, anyway he went to court and went up to the DA, and the DA looked at us, seeing us as native americans. He told my friend he would drop the ticket ONLY because he is in the army, and we better not drive or ride through the town again because native americans are not welcome.... now isn't that food for thought??

I realize that I made it sound like you were some punk hood rat, I was having flashbacks of doing security for JCPenneys (sorry). I do think that sometimes cops finger someone out to destroy, my cousin for one, only yellow mustang in the area getting ticketed 3 times in a month, but not one was for more than 2 mph over. Then a month later he got one for 37 mph over but that's irrelevant, just funny if you knew the whole story.

carbon,
sorry i didnt realize that. in response i must say that there have been multiple instances where i have been pulled over for doing nothing wrong. how is it that i can be pulled over when not speeding, and then sat outside my car for an hour while the police frisk me, run my plates, and check my car out and then say, ok you can go? please tell me what this could possibly be. am i not being a man by jsut sitting there and dealing with it, cooperating completely? am i not being a man by not saying a word, arguing, complaining or even begrudging the police while they are conducting their business? how am i not being a man? i have been pulled over for doing nothing, they pull up next to me, look at me, then decide to pull me over? how does that work? then they make some comment about me being asian and knowing martial arts? at the very least that is an inappropriate and unecessary RACIAL comment. please explain to me how that does not constitute being pulled over because of race?

In many instances, you can't issue for 2 over. A court in New York would bounce it, and it is illegal in some states such as Florida.

i got a ticket on highway 17 once in santa cruz for going 57 in a 55 zone. but i think that was more a quota thing than anything else. cuz the cops are always out in force at the end of the month in santa cruz.

i gotta add tho, that was when i was driving my Isuzu Rodeo, not a civic.

Hey man I'm not defending every single cop out there because your right racial profiling does go on but you cant tell me that you repeatedly get pulled over by different officers and they all did it because you are asian... and the only reason i can think of why they pull up next to you for is to see how many people are in the car and just for safety reasons.... you dont know how scary it is to walk up to a car not knowing what the person is gonna do or have or what.... just put yourself in that position one time but you have no idea until you experience it yourself

i understand that it is a very hard job, and scary. i dont deny that. i am just relaying to you my experiences. one time the police detained myself and a passenger for an hour and after we asked him very politely many times why we were being pulled over and searched, it was because he thought my passenger did not have his seatbelt on. but does that give him probable cause to search our vehicle no, but if we refused, then yes it would. i am not attacking you, i am jsut pointing out the fact that these profilings do happen, and i believe i have been on the wrong end a few too many times. granted not every stop is race related, but a great many are. by the way, if you are wondering why it is that i am so passionate about this subject, its because i am a student at ucsd who just graduated with a masters in ethnic studies, so it is a very hot subject in my studies. i just feel very strongly about all of this. i dont mean to make any personal attacks at anyone or the police in general.

i jsut feel that this is an issue that is too often overexploited by the media, therefore lending less weight to the issue when it happens again. people think that the victims play the race card too much and that may be true, but for the instances that race is an issue, i dont believe that enough emphasis is put forward into solving these kinds of issues.

You know, I will have to back Syon on this one. The cops here in San Antonio are a little over active sometimes when it comes to driving violations. I know Hefe had a run in with them about his Neons. Also, I remember a while back, my brother had a run in with them in a so called Fancy *** neighborhood. We're Hispanic and they said his car looked out of place. WTF. I can't speak for any other city, but I certainly can understand where he's coming from being from San Antonio myself.

Inspecta is right about the imports being pulled way more here in SD. I mean there are more rimed up SUV's with moster suspensions and Rustangs all loud as hell aournd here, people driving liek complete morons, but you ALWAYS see the Civic with altezza's on the side of the 5 with 2 cops cars behind him. Maybe he was speeding, maybe not, but for F*KK's sake everyone else sure is.

Thanks for the warning Dark, Next time I make my way down there for our meets, I'll be sure to take off my Altezza's. I think what saves me is my Fire Department sticker on my rear window. I usually will do something wrong and a cop will follow me, but it seems as if they see the sticker and back off. As long as the sticker works, I'm keeping it on.

A suspicious auto that "looks out of place" can be legitimate grounds to make a stop for investigatory purposes. As 02Carbon will also say, you do not need probable cause to make a traffic stop; only reasonable suspicion.

.... doing that is almost as stupid as saying you only got pulled over for being black and that the fact you were speeding or whatever else you did played no part in the officer pulling you over ..[hr]

Well, on one hand that isn't such a stupid thing to say. It happened to me back in 1991 (summer). I was driving my mom's Mazda 626 at around 5pm headed to my GF's house. I was doing probably 52 in a 50 and got pulled over in Hoffman Estates, IL (I grew up there). It went like this:
{Story}Cop: do you know why I pulled you over?
Me: No
Cop: I stopped you for speeding.
Me: 2mph over the speed limit? (Mind you it was down a slight hill)
Cop: Yes, the posted speed limit is 50, you were doing 52.
Me: I realize that the speed limit is 50, but 2mph over down hill?
Cop: still speeding.

Too make a long story short: (Comes back with Summons to Appear)

Me: you're giving me a ticket for 2mph over?
Cop: yes.
Me: You can't be serious, you have nothing better to do?
Cop: Shut you're mouth N>>>>r!
Me: excuse me?!
Cop: You heard me. I said shut your mouth.
Me: you pulled me over because I'm a young black male (I got that from him calling me what he did)
Cop: "You people are always causing problems around here, go back to where you came from"
{/End Story}

So telling me that it wouyld be stupid to say that is just plain ridiculous(sp?)!!

I agree with Qckslver about registering complaints... I told my mom what had happened (she worked for the city) and she talked to the Chief.. To sum it all up, that officer was suspended.

There are some idiot cops out there and true not all are bad. You only know when it happens to you. It's easy to say "if you didnt do anything wrong then respect him for trying to do his job and you dont have anything to worry about ".
Does someone like that deserve repsect?

ON a lighter note.. Did I mention my Thermal Exhaust is illegal for my car? i got a warning on the way home today. There's an officer here in NH who has been overheard in saying, he loves to pull over imports because he hates them. My gf goes to school for criminal justice and there is a cop in her class who works with the officer who pulled me over.
I thought there was a decibel meter that had to be used to judge that rather than assuming it.

That's just it, we were told he would either resign or be fired.. Neither happened. I believe he was suspended for like 2 weeks and then back on the streets.. But back then, practically the entire dept was "racial". Another point in case, there was a Black Female officer who was hired on to ease tensions between the African- American public and thte police dept. Well after say a month, a read that there was a lawsuit pending. Turns out the Female officer was suing the city for racial reasons, I guess they gave her a hard time...
Don't know the outcome of that.
