Ran an engine on little oil
Someone I know thought it would be a great idea to forget about checking the dipstick on a Honda Fit that burns oil and when I checked the dipstick there was nothing... the engine had been running on about 1L of oil for maybe a month or so. Obviously this means the lifespan of the engine has been significantly reduced, but as a DIY I'm wondering what are some general things to check on honda engines when this happens? Or will I have to get the dealer to look at it, and if so, what should I tell them to check so they don't overcharge?
I've heard that Purple Royal is the best oil to use and may buy more time for using the engine until it fails. Thinking about mixing 3/4 purple royal with some high mileage oil. The engine has like 290k on it already anyway.

Re: Ran an engine on little oil
I made that same mistake when I first got my civic. I had some nasty valve lash with it being low but I topped it up and it was fine. I just used conventional from then on. It burns about a quart every 600 miles so it seemed like a waste to put decent oil in it. I drove 60k miles like that before giving the car to my brother in January. He’s still driving it.
Re: Ran an engine on little oil
Well since it’s a Honda it should be “okay”. If it was a VW you would be in a world of hurt. I’d fill it and monitor it. I’d put cheap Castrol Synthetic in it cause it’s probably going to burn it so no need to use the expensive stuff.
