Car insurance.
Car insurance.
Hey,
I got my licence not to long ago, and I`m insured as second driver on my dads car (parents are split up). And I want to borrow my moms car for a day, will I be covered under her insurance because I don`t live with her, or do I need to get an insurance as second driver even though I`m only taking it for a day?
Thanks.

Yes. A person does not even have to be listed on someones policy to be covered. If I lend my car to my friend Mr. X and he has an accident, my insurance is required to pay for that accident. Additionally, under the "omnibus clause" of auto insurance, the fact that you are an insured under another car can carry over to any car you operate.

You are insuring the car as well as the driver. Several years ago a friend totaled my car and my insurance paid for it. However, technically, I think the insurance company could deny the claim if some else was driving the car but not positive.
VTEC is correct; I provided information based upon New York law. Policies underwritten in most states have an omnibus clause, however do check the policy. The absolute worst that could happen is that an accident occurs, the insurance company pays, and then drops the insured.
