Newbie with questions--be gentile!

New to the forum, and to auto maintenance and repair.i have a 93 civic Si hatch project. It is running, and running well, but there are some nagging issues I would like to clear up, and before I google a random walk through, I thought I would shorten the trip and ask the experts.

Problem 1. Winding from the power steering.Rack and pinion is new, don't think service guys replaced psp, or if they were supposed to. Fluid levels are good. Is it just the pump?

Problem 2. Had rear struts replaced a few years ago. Ever since, if I encounter even the smallest of bumps I get noise from the rear suspension. Can they be adjusted? I am rolling on 17"s with lo-pros, and no mods to the fender wells.
I also hear a lot of noise from rear end as tires turn. Could that be bearings/axle?

Problem 3. Battery will not hold charge. I think the radio Is doing something to drain it. Can I pull a fuse for the radio without disabling other functions? Car has sat without running for long periods of time, but I have noticed radio trying to work even when no key in ignition.

Many other minor issues, but if someone has had similar experiences or can give me a hint, I'd very much appreciate it. I've had the car for years in my garage and am ready to get serious with getting it reliable. Any help would be great.

Thanks!

Re: Newbie with questions--be gentile!

Be patient. Answers take time and not many people own that generation of civic anymore.

1.) It is normal to have some noise at slow speeds with the wheel almost all the way turned.

2.) Could be rubbing. Not sure what size wheels your civic can take.

3.) Could be a bad alternator. Could also be that if it's been sitting in your garage for forever that the battery just won't hold a charge anymore. You can take it to the local Advance Auto or something and they'll do a free check on your alternator and battery.

Thanks man. I was just kidding. I am surprised to hear not many are owning this year/model civic, tho. I appreciate the input.

This isn't a chat room. Seems like many read but few participate.
Winding from the power steering
WHining noise.....Aerating fluid? Wrong fluid? Bad pump? Someone needs to figure it out.

You SHOULD have gone straight back to the installer the moment you noticed this.. Maybe something was left loose.

You make it sound as though the radio is mis-wired, battery hot tied to accessory hot, or they got swapped. Remove radio and wiring, start from scratch?

If removing the radio and its wiring stops the battery from dying, you found the problem. If not, then more troubleshooting would be needed.

Re: Newbie with questions--be gentile!

For the power steering does it only make noise at full turn? I think that's pretty normal-just not other times.

Thanks for your response.

I will pull the radio.

How do I know if It is a bad ps pump?

Re: rear struts--I do have 17's tucked with no fender mods, but before the stock swap of rear struts with new stock struts, I didn't have this problem.

I hear it when idling, ramps up when turning.

Re: Newbie with questions--be gentile!

My noise started AFTER I had the struts replaced. Then my civic went into the garage for years. Just now shaking off the cobwebs, about to get her painted, and get everything right so it can be a daily driver. If I come up with the reason why the rear struts are noisy and/or a fix for it, I will let you know. Please do the same.
