Help. 2001 Olds Aurora headlights stay on.

I am trying to help a friend with his 2001 Aurora with V8. His headlights stay on all the time. He has to disconnect his battery to turn them off. He gave me a Haynes manual to look over but even though the manual covers up to 2002 it is not like his car. Anyway in looking up the problem it is usually either the Multi Function Switch or the Lamp Control Module. I have found out that they did away with the LCM in 1999. Anybody know if they replaced it with something else and if so where it is located? A wiring diagram would be great. I pulled a MFS at the junk yard today and it is not one of the easier ones to change. I want to be sure that is the problem before I tear into his car. I grabbed a few relays from under the hood to give a try. Any help would be appreciated. Thanks

Ed

I can't get Alldata at home, sorry. If I remember and have time, I'll try to look at work tomorrow.

Thanks Craig. What is the ARRC? I always get myself in trouble while trying to help others. I thought it would be a simple switch change. Now I am not so sure. I don't even know where those modules are located. I did find a really good donor car in the jy if I need to get them. That diagram will help.

As far as I know it is just the headlights. I haven't even been to his house yet, just trying to reseach and get what I may need. I pulled the MFS and a module out yesterday. I looked up the number on the module and is said it was the body control module so I took it back. I keep finding confusing info. Some say that is the module I need, some say there is another module called DIM(dash integration module). Like I say, nothing is ever easy for me. I also read that all these modules are VIN specific and if I get one in the JY it may not work. At least with the schematic I can tell if it is the MFS or not. It is not easy to change and the car is real nice. I don't want to scratch or break anything.

Check if tails are on also, & look to see if just high beams, or just low beams on maybe stuck relay contacts.

Looked around a automotiveforums.com but you may check there 105 pages on this olds model.

I appologize. I just talked to my friend. All exterior lights are on. I should have gotten more info before I got on here. It is starting to look like more of a module problem. I need to find out if they are interchangeable and where it is located. I would rather change that module than the MFS on this car. Thanks for the help.

Re: Help. 2001 Olds Aurora headlights stay on.

Headlight switch only makes a request to the DIM (dash integration module).
DIM controls the low and high beam headlight relays and the DRL relay in the underhood fuse block.

Yeah, you really need to know exactly what all lights (and anything else unusual) are affected before you start chasing stuff.

If it isn't a stuck relay then it's probably a control side that won't let go..And everything kinda looks like it leads to the DIM as the control point.....

A Tech2 scanner would give access to data and possible codes, that would surely cut down the dinking around time.

DIM
Above right dash hush panel, looks like 3 connectors
I'd guess a box the size of a PCM?

EDIT: No idea if it would need programmed or not.

Thanks Ezone and Matt, I really appreciate all the help you guys give to us hacks. I think I will go back to the JY and grab the modules. I think that DIM is behind the glove box. They are only about $10.00 so I won't be out too much. I still need to find out if they are plug and play.

Just an update. The module under the glove box corrected the problem with the lights. Now his radio is locked. The battery had been disconnected several times and it never locked up. I don't see that this module has anything to do with it. I told him he may have to have it reprogrammed at the dealer. Or to look on line for some help. Anyway the important stuff is working. I just wanted to help the guy out, now he wants me to fix all the stuff on his car. I have enough projects of my own. Thanks for the help and Merry Christmas to all.
