just a little bit of a/c really hurt my gas mileage
i have been getting over 40mpg lately, but on the last tank i had to use the a/c off and on for maybe 20-30 miles to de-fog my windows because it was hot and raining and they were fogging up a lot, and the only way to get rid of it in a reasonable amount of time was to turn on the a/c with the defroster. after it was clear i would turn off the a/c (only to have to turn it on again a minute later) when i filled up my gas tank this time, i had only gotten around 36.5mpg i didnt drive any differently or anything, so it had to be the a/c that made me get around 4mpg less than normal, unless the gas station ripped me off. my gas light has been coming on when ive used about 9 gallons lately for some reason, but this time it wasnt even on yet and the needle was still above empty, but it took 10.5 gallons according to the pump is the a/c worse if you turn it off and on a lot, or is it really that bad on the gas mileage in our cars?
i get such bad milage i dont know why...ever since i first got it..the best ive ever done is 30...i usually get like 25 or so...i dont even race around or anything, i check my tire pressure...oil changed, no engine mods, only me and a box in the car......i wish i could get better milage
Humm yeah I haven't noticed a drastic difference but it does kill the mileage. I even use 91 octane so I dunno. But still in my car I can feel the A/C engage and disengage its like a turbo button sometimes.

Ya, even when cruising on the highway, I can feel the AC kicking in and out. Nothing serious... just a bit annoying.

yep, the a/c will definately cause a loss in your mpg. I am pretty sure that the a/c affects your gas mileage more than anything else. I just drove to atlanta and back from charlotte last week. I had the a/c on both ways and I only got 35mpg which is the same as I get in the city. I actually get the same or better gas mileage driving in the city as compared to the highway. I guess it's because I travel at or above 80mph and the darn rpms are so high. I don't how you can get great mileage when the rpms are at 4k. It's mainly just annoying as hay.
My gas mileage is victim to my heavy foot, too. I don't know about you guys, but I wind the tach to 5 or 6 grand almost all the time. I've really got to stop doing that, it is KILLING my gas mileage.....and with gas proces rumored to go higher soon....

I don't know how you guys feel, but the vic feels like a metro if you don't let the rpms go up. Then, when you do get the power you're making a lot of noise. I have had several hondas and they were just the same just not to the extent of the vic.
As for the heavy foot, I get 32-33 in the city even if I abuse her every where I go. I have an ex manual by the way.

I will agree the civic is pretty boggy till it gets up there on the RPM, raced a mazda on the highway and took him the other night it wasn't anything special on the Mazda so no biggie in my mind.

I use my A/C freely, and still get around around 35 MPG, even with turbo (Aka heavy foot). I feel the power kick in when I turn the A/C off. It serves to remind me that I have a small car with just enough horsepower to outlast the Flintstones.
