here is a theory from solar
"I had the problem with my old Ford Van, the accessory belts would get wet and slip which made the belts flap like rubber bands which caused a horrible vibration. I had the belts re adjusted using a belt tentioner gauge, and the problem went away. I myself don't have the problem with my 2k2 EX and I drive it a lot in the rain. Hope this might shed a little light on the problem. "

I want a solution sooo badly, I've been tryin to figure this out for the past year and a half, I thought it was my intake...took that off...no dice, still vibrating, it souds like there is water in the exhaust or something, but it trips me out everytime I drive my car.
This is a PM from Machina. Ha hasn't been here, so I will post it.
<< I think I have found the solution to the noise problem thread in vehicle issues...as you can see it's late right now but here is a short summary..
I just recieved a letter in the mail from Honda stating a warranty extesion for "Noise from the engine exhaust manifold"...!!..it is a whole page typed letter and I am tired right now but will type it out fully tomorrow and post it...bottom line is that it states there is a casting defect in the engine exhaust manifold that may casue it to crack creating a noise... >>

nice Derek.....Is he just like one of us that have purchased the car??.....or is he a mechanic of some sort?....
That would be nice if Honda actually noticed, and that letter said something of the sort on a recall.

Thanks mach, maybe you could just fax it to someone else with a fax and a scanner, anyone willing to do this? If so put up your # so mach can fax it to you. I'd hate to see ya type the whole thing out specially if your buzy.
yeah it's tough workin 2 jobs to pay off credit and save for school...I have a scanner that i've never used so I'll give it a shot in the morning...but now I must hit the sack,,,gotta rise early and get my tints done...
I just got my GReddy EVO put on and today was the first time I drove it in the rain. I was almost at work then it starts vibrating like crazy. I was like NOOOooooo. This is the first time this has ever happened to me so I thought it was my new exhaust. I'm glad now though...I guess?

i just experienced this thing the otherday in the rain, it was horriable, i almost freaked, and remembered this page. i am almost sure it's something to do with the exahust system. i didn't get this till i put the magnaflow on too. so, where is the fax so maybe i can show it to my dealer and get this thing fixed? even with my aftermarket exhaust!

Hi all, i think machina got a solution because he said he bent his piping more or something like that, but anyways brought it back to my shop, they couldn't exactly figure out what was wrong because when the car was hoisted up, i checked all underneath and everything look really good and fine, no scratches anywhere or dents....... they decided that it might be possible that there is not enough clearance at the back wheel axle where the piping goes over the wheel axle, it could be possible that its hitting there.......... anywayz they bent the piping more and there is way more clearance now, so i think i should be ok in the rain though i have not tried yet... i'll see in a couple of days, but i do think this works because when i used to blast my car, meaning, accelerating really quickly, the car would make that crappy vibration sound but not as bad as in the rain, now when i blast it, its ok...... hopefully everyone can fix this problem...... good luck

it's the engine mount on the passengers side...it only vibrates under acceleration after hitting a large puddle...the mount gets soaked..the the "pin" type thing that mounts into the bushing slips around. when the mount is dry..the rubber moves as that pin turns..hen it's wet..the rubber slips and causes a bouncy vibration....
I can't 100% confirm this.. but it is not the exhaust ..and this is the only other feasable theory..as this only happens with the engine under load I can;t very well get a visual..the only way to truly test this would be on a dyno

ok, i did a little investigating under the car last time i had it on stands. i located the source of the vibration, but i'm still not sure why it only vibrates under specific conditions (mine vibrates anywhere above 70mph and also in the rain above 50mph). the vibration (in my car) is coming from just under the front passenger seat. sure enough, when i crawled under the car and pushed up on the exhaust, the point of contact was where the mid-pipe crosses under that "bubble" in the frame under the passenger seat. i see two possible solutions: the "bubble" could be dented in a little more (you'll see the groove where the pipe passes under it), or exhaust-wrap could be wound around the pipe in that specific location to deaden the vibration. i contacted Therma-Tec (or Thermo-Tec?) to see if the second option was possible, and they said yes. the only concern they had was the slight possibilty that if the wrap was in contact with the floorboard, it could transfer some of the heat. i ordered some wrap, and am going to try it out within the coming weeks. i'll let you all know if it works. in the meantime, if anyone is brave enough to increase the pipe-to-frame clearance with few bangs of the hammer, let us know if that works. ***these are merely suggestions, and i take no responsibility for any adverse outcomes. i guess it's "try at your own risk."***
God damn I have the same problem. I get so scared I think that my car is gonna blow up. I was driving home with this girl I was gonna bang the other night and it was pouring. She was in the right front seat and thought she was gonna die cause it felt like and sounded like the water was shooting up from underneath her. Definately not cool.

I didn't have this problem until I got my exhaust (custom piping). What appears to be the problem is that the pipe is almost touch a part of the car body. When it's hot, the metal expands and gets even closer to that body part. Add water to cause it to contract and move, you get the knocking on that part. I don't have pics right now but I fixed my problem by wrapping the pipe with thermal wrap and keeping the pipe from ever touching the part it's rubbing under the car
