Vibration When It Rains!!

Please don't move this thread, I want to give it more publicity...........

Recently I have found that when it rains my car vibrates like mad, i thought it was only me but a few other people have been having the exact same problem, we think it has to do with mainly AUTOMATIC drivers and its a honda thing not a mod one.

Check out the thread in Vehicle Issues, if you have this problem, contact your dealership so we can have a re-call

Thread To Vibration Problem

NeoMagus 04-21-2002 02:27 PM

its not gonna get recalled...Honda is too much of an ass to acknoledge something they say "isn't there" and only happens when its raining...people in Seattle have a better chance of exposing it then I do where I live

netcbc 04-21-2002 02:35 PM

Hopefully at least they can find out how to fix it, when it rains i get so pissed when my car goes retarded

01civicboi 04-21-2002 03:52 PM

i also get the same vibration when i go on extra-bumpy road, or the rails on railroads

SatinSilver2k1 04-21-2002 04:08 PM

i get some f@cked up whistling noise in the rain..
so does my friend with an acura 1.7 EL...
any of you guys get this?

netcbc 04-22-2002 04:04 AM

whistling, not really, little bit but not as bad as the vibration

Derek-CEO 04-22-2002 07:11 AM

is it also really loud knocking/vibration? if so, I have had this for a year. mt dealership is trying to tell me it's my exhaust or cause i lowered it. If you find out what is going on, please let me know.

D

01IncaPearl 04-22-2002 10:58 AM

I have the same noise but I just cant figure out what it is.

Ronin 04-22-2002 12:51 PM

What about this: Do any of you people get the same problems if you wash your engine bay?

Cuz I'm thinking that washing your engine with high-pressure water would expose sensitive components to more water than simply driving through a puddle.

xtremedreams 04-22-2002 01:45 PM

the vibration is in the exhaust..... u could see the mark on the bottom of my car where it was hitting, the water from the rain gets on the rubber bushings and causes the piping to swing more, and that is the only reason it does it in the rain........ it took my dealer about a year to figure out this problem

Ronin 04-22-2002 01:58 PM

did they fix it? If yes, what did they do?

NeoMagus 04-22-2002 02:55 PM

yah, whats the deal w/ it??

CUE2k1 04-22-2002 05:09 PM

I have the same problem and I always thought it was my mid-pipe getting splashed on by water. WTF??

O1Coupe 04-22-2002 05:14 PM

My viberation gets so intense, that entire centre console shakes and as well as my seats...........

And it's LOUD.

But they keep insisting that everything is NORMAL. If this is normal, Hondas are crap.

netcbc 04-23-2002 12:09 AM

Same thing happeneing for me, what the heck is rubber bushings and stuff? how can u fix it?

blackasnight2001 04-23-2002 12:45 AM

i have experienced the vibration a couple times now, only in the rain though, and it feels like its only coming from under the front right wheel well don't know if that thats where you guys are having it also...???

01IncaPearl 04-23-2002 10:53 AM

Mine is in the same spot!

netcbc 04-23-2002 03:19 PM

me too, this totally sucks

maverickja17 04-23-2002 08:35 PM

do you guys have CAIs? I thought that is what it could be since it never vibrated until I installed it. I just sold it the other day and no, the vibration wasn't because anything was loose. That would also explain the right wheelwell thing. Oh well, selling the car anyway.

xryder 04-24-2002 02:52 AM

mine vibrates under the shifter and it's really loud, on dry weatherif i accelerate fast to 60-80kph i hear 'clinks'from the same spot

netcbc 04-24-2002 04:54 AM

Hey cool my first sticky, ok so far we have determined what sounds we get, we need to determine the exact PROBLEM and SOLUTION plz!!

tsunamisplash 04-24-2002 05:00 AM

yep same problem here..

i believe it is water hitting the catalytic converter and boiling... i think the placement of the cat is the problem. that's just my guess tho.

01civicboi 04-24-2002 08:04 AM

<< i believe it is water hitting the catalytic converter and boiling... i think the placement of the cat is the problem. that's just my guess tho. >>

that seems to make sense to me. can water boiling be that violent and loud?

nbpEMCivic 04-24-2002 10:04 AM

sorry guys but I dont have this problem....got custom exhaust and cold air...no virations or anything when it rains.

tsunamisplash 04-24-2002 01:51 PM

<< that seems to make sense to me. can water boiling be that violent and loud? >>

i agree.. it does seem quite violent for water..

autobots 04-24-2002 03:00 PM

when it rains it i can feel it in the center consol under the shifter. I have 2.25 exhaust and i had it heated and bent once and now its doing it again. Also if i turn right only right quickly ill hear it. Does anyone have this problem that doesnt have an exhaust just factory. i also would like to know why its doing it i thought about redueing the exhaust and going down in pipe size. It a cross member that its hitting but i dont know. also when i hit the dip coming into my house the muffler swings and taps the bumper. Could u weld the muffler to the underside of the car instead of using hangers or is that bad.

Derek-CEO 04-25-2002 02:27 PM

I don't suggest welding it. It needs to be able to flex.

I was thinking it may be the wheel bearing, but it happens at idle at the light, so it can't be that. I just want it fixed.

Not 100% sure on this but here goes.......

I worked in service at a Honda dealership and the vibration/noise you hear during the rain is possibly because you are trying to defrost the windows with the AC ON! This means both fans are spinning and when you hit a big puddle, the water splashes against the fans from one to the other until it runs off. This creates a loud noise and mild vibration.

Next time it happens look and see if your AC is on, or if your fan is on.

netcbc 04-28-2002 02:26 AM

hey 2k1 thanks for the insight but just today i drove in the rain, all fans off and i can feel big a$$ vibration under the shift knob area, when i rev hard then it gets rid of it, but its annoying!

mohawkboom 04-28-2002 07:51 AM

My brains been working hard on this one.. I'm thinking it's actually the engine mounts.. if you look on your car.. under the right wheel well...you can see one of the engine mounts.. It's basically a rubber block. If that gets wet..then water may get into the mounts bearing/bushing and instead of it working smoothly it grinds and alispes as the engine vibrates under power...

Just my .02 cents tho

Cheers
