6th most expensive car to insure
This is an eye-opener.

They say it's so expensive because it's a popular car and according to the law of averages that makes it popular to steal. Personally I think it's due to all the kiddies who put a el giganto wing on the car and go street racing or think they suddenly have the driving ability of Mario Andretti. Either way, I think I'm going to drop by the VW dealership and see what I can do about this

WHAT???!?!?!?!?? Its costs more to insure a slow poke enviromental friendly Civic than a Gas guzzling, fast as crap Corvette??? Whats wrong with this picture?
<< hahaha, I have a sedan. (sorry coupe owners)
Historically, I think cars (and trucks) that were top sellers 8-10 years ago are now the top stolen cars today. >>
exactly. think about it. all those cars that sold so well a while back, they all need parts to replace what may have broken/failed.
LOL@ newark trying to "make it up"...keep on "thuggin" ha?

Because most 'vette owners are older people who generally tend to drive like sane people. Vette owners also tend to have another car to drive to work and back, and thus there are less miles/chances of a collision.

I would have guessed that the civic would have been a little higher on the list... we're still pretty popular to steal and the average age of a civic driver is pretty low (so more accidents on average)
I pay my own insurance with no tickets (I beat em in court
) and one accident, and am a male and still 17... talk about a fortune for insurance!!
I pay my own insurance with no tickets (I beat em in court
) and one accident, and am a male and still 17... talk about a fortune for insurance!! A lot of you aren't taking all the factors that determine insurance rates. Cars being stolen are by no means the top reason. They base it on the number and extent of injuries that occur during an accident and the severity of the injury and how much they have to pay. They also base it on how well the actual car does in an accident. For instance a poorly made car such as the mirage is more likely to incur more damage causing a more expensive repair cost. Each car is pretty much on there for a different reason. I don't see the reason for the 2001+ Civics because its no longer one of the top stolen cars. I'd have to wager that the immoblizer plays a big role. The old screwdriver in the ignition doesn't work anymore.
I just check State Farms website and they list the Civic as a 20% discount for safety, but it has a "slightly higher" rate than most cars for Phsycial Damage that occurs to the vehicle in an accident. With the discount for personal injury and the slightly higher incrase of property damage, I'd have to say that the Civic should rate right in the middle. I pay $94/month for full coverage through State Farm.

Yep I lived in Phoenix for 2 years and yep highest auto theft in the nation. Glad I didn't have my new civic down there very long before I moved out of there
But yep sometimes I wish I would have bought the sedan would have saved a little on insurance.

I was with State Farm until recently. They were going to raise my rates from $450USD to $500USD (6-month rate). I switched to Progressive and got a $450USD rate again. Unitrin is offering a $100USD per 6 months discount if you buy a year's worth of insurance (I only found this out *after* I switched to Progressive).

Screw Progressive, I will never buy insurance from them again. For my last car, It cost me about $225 to start it up when i got the car, and about $100 a month after that. At the start of my second year, i got a bill for about $230, and thinking that i just had to pay another double payment because of the start of a new year, I paid it. I think it was the first time i had a car for a whole year too. The next month's bill comes and its $230 again! WTF?? so i call them to get some answers. Turns out they raised my rates, even though i had no accidents and no tickets, because of my zip code. WHAT? I live in a town of about 800 people with no crime rate. My dad's motorcycle insurance didnt go up that was through them. That makes no sense to me, so i tell them i want to cancel, and because I started the policy, i had to pay a $50 cancellation fee. And after talking to 3 different supervisors, none of them would take that fee of, even though they all admited that they would have overlooked that too.
my rate w/ state farm went down $400 bucks!!! i asked and the lady said "well you turned 21, you have no accidents or tickets, and the ratings on your model are going down because of the key system you have"

Hey Avenger: I experienced the same thing with State Farm when I turned 21 a couple of years ago. Went from $130/month to $89/month on my Accord. They told me it was a combination of turning 21 which was a small increase and 5 years of accident/ticket free. Since we both have State Farm, that may have been the case for you too.
Man I don't know where they got their info but I don't think my premiums are all that high. I have an Inca '01 ex and I pay 62.00/month for full coverage. 500.00 deductible and policy is combined with homeowners and multiple car. Must be higher for non homeowners with one car.
Hey snowman I dont know what list you were looking at but the one I saw listed two luxury german cars. The BMW 7 series and the BMW 5 series.
