Need to vent, no respect

Just need to vent, for seemingly no reason. I am tired of of my "friends" telling me my car is slow. My alleged best friend traded in his Mustang for a Cougar, (it's an upgrade actually, but still a POS) and I supported him. He never acknowledged my car when I bought mine. Hell, once my dad was at a fellow corvette club member house talking about my car. The other corvette dude said that he's impressed with the amount of aftermarket parts that are out for Hondas, then my dad says something to the affect of "but it still whines like an old lawnmower like most Hondas." At least wait till my *** isn't there. I just graduated from college, excuse me if I can't afford a Lamborghini. Every time I upgrade my car, my friends shake their head or my dad says "it's not a corvette." I am not doing this to make my car faster. I'm doing it because I can, because it's a lifestyle. If they don't like it, at least they can show some support, or better yet, keep your their damn mouth shut.

Here's how you deal with it: Just ignore it. I don't give a fizuck what others think of my car cuz I like it. Nobody has to like your car but you. That's all that matters.

The older people usually don't share or understand our passion for the imports. I love the loud high-revving engines. As for your friends, screw em. I love my vic and modding it is like a hobby to me. They'll come around when they realize that while their cars need repairs frequently, they have never heard you say anything about taking your lawnmower into the shop! HMMM.....

My dad's vette just had 4,500 bucks of repair, but he had a warranty. As for my friends Cougar, their retail value sucks something nasty. I view us as something of an aftermarket version of Shawshank Redemption. We may not win now but we'll still be laughing later. That may sound cheesy but it gets me sleeping at night.

AMEN! Everyone has their own tastes and opinions. And opinions are like a, well, you know the rest.

When peeps put down your car bc it is "slow" just make it look like you don't give a crap.

Side note: My buddy recently got rid of his beautiful '99 Z28 for a '98 Merc Sable! Why? Because he couldn't afford the payments and the insurance. hahaha (sorry Jer. )

Im proud of u man. Sometimes I deal wit the same shizzle, lil stuff that can easily be ignored but instead it gets to the point where u jus wanna say, "shut the hell up!!" And we all kno, its the same stuff over n over.
But u gotta remember one thing. They are totally different from us. I have friends and we all have Preludes, Civics, Integras, Eclipses and it's great, but my dad dont like anything done to my ride, it's hard cuz Im the only one basically runnin stock out of the group and thas how I get ripped, but not really... and I get bished at about the Civic at home, but I kno my dad don't understand, he worked on cars before and hes not into the whole import scene and I can totally invision myself workin wit aftermarket import designs when I get a lil older. Right now I guess it's real hard cuz Im a senior in highschool but I can't wait till I get out.
Jus remember...
They don't understand....

Word, it is a constant lesson in life, its not what you do, its what you put up with. Just don't let it get to you, its always there. Mustangs get ripped on by camaro's, vettes by vipers, porsches by ferraris, it never ends man

Never though of that Intruder. The more money you spend on your car the less common sense you can afford.

i feel ya man. I didnt buy my ride for speed, i bought it cause with all the mods i can make the Civic MINE!! different from anybody elses...hella exspensive, but d@mn enjoyable. My mom vented left and right when i wanted to get euro tails, all paranoid that id screw somethin electrical and kill my car. I went against her wishes and BOOM!! she loved the look!! every little mod ive done she has hated, but when i finished she was floored at how nice it looked, then asked if i could do her 2001 civic!!!!

People will always say stuff, like peeps have said, ignore it do your thing man cause these cars r awesome. I may never beat a vette but i get way mad more props cause my ride looks nice as hell, yea the vette is faster.....but the Honies r standing next to the import.

My dad says i can borrow his jeep to get girls....all i say is, "Dad, u see that sweet a$$ blue civic in your driveway?? the girls want the **** who drives THAT!! not ya Wrangler.!"

We with ya man!!!

WTF! holy crap i hate those kinda ppl, who think they own a fast car that nuthin' else is worthy of their opinions... i say you mod you car and beat the crap out of that corvettes to prove a point....althought that is a small percentage.... HONDA! has one of the most advanced engine Technology, the fact that simple upgrade can give Honda engines better performance is amazing!! IMO!! and another thing is what you , me and all the other guys on this forum do is a "LIFESTYLE"! that's what makes us tuners, and not some stuck up idiot who know nuthing and thinks he know things cause he drives a fast car... Hell the guys who own corvettes worry about every lil ding and dent.... and pay more for insurence and cost more to maintain...

I'm only 18, not in college yet till september, dun make a whole lotta cash, but was able to purcahse my LX coupe, you better acknowledge me or soon i just might cut you off and you'll be choking on my civic's dust in your convertable....

Should've show that corvette member the famous "Civic kicked Corvette's **** twice!" threads at corvette forum.

Anyhoo, I'm supporting you. My friend(Brian) who is into Honda, Ford, Pontaic, etc... supported me all the way. My other friends(they are very much into domestic cars) constantly make fun of my car. I love domestic and import cars. Each car has their pros and cons. I like Fiero as much I like my civic. I like Impala as I like Brian's 1991 CR-X HF I just don't get the whole concept of "domestic vs. import" rivality. Personally, I think it's stupid. Just letting you know that you got the right idea.

Also you should tell your friends that Imports have alot advangtages over Domestic. You can tinker around with it, make it your own style, learn a lot about cars by tinkering with your car, and alot of aftermaket parts, etc...

I dont understand the rivalry all that well, but im involved. I truly hate domestics for some reason....dunno y. Just when i hear some retard go off cause i drive an import and he has whatever domestic of the month and talks smack how much faster etc etc yada yada. I just laugh, hate to break it to ya, but if hte IMPORT giants start crankin out V8's, Domestics will die in my opinion. You imagine everything we get out of 4 & 6's oh my god. I feel Imports will forever own Domestics, smaller, faster, and maybe its just here, but ever genius with a domestic rides obviously killed his imagination at a young age cause the rule here is Domestic=racing stripes!!! what the f%#k!! Cant have a custom paint job on a Domestic...gotta have STRIPES!!

Our cars r so much more beautiful when done.....man i really hate Domestic!!

ewwww

what the hell, civics aren't even classified as a sports car, they shouldn't even be compared to corvettes, not even mustangs. when people say it's slow just agree, who cares. I think most of us knew ahead of time what we were buying. dealerships do let us test drive cars, if we wanted a fast car the we would have bought one, but no, we chose the civic! now we have the pleasure of modifying forever and we don't have to pay expensive sport car insurance rates....

I feel you guys....im all alone on this lifestyle here but you know what screw everyone who thinks that its stupid and pointless to tune a civic or any import for that matter...the point is that its mine and my style...no one has my car i do this not only for the love but for the joy and knowledge i gain from it. I dont like the domestics i got respect for some of them never would own one but i respect some of em. to me i got the car for ME i mod the car for me i pay for the car for me and i do with it whatever i feel....if anyone says that its pointless than at least have respect the fact that its MINE!

As for this import domestic rivalry I put up with it every weekend. The older guys and most guys my age don't understand and say we are wasting our money by fixing up our civics. As for me I have owned a Domestic sports car. I had a firebird for 3 years. It was 1999 and I got it brand new. The dang thing stayed in the shop more than it did the road. I love my Civic and have never been happier with a car in my life. Like everyone says its a Lifestyle. You buy a Civic and you BUILD a fast car, and its yours.

I know what you mean bro. Most of my friends drive trucks, and they just have the whole "oh, your little civic can't do this, carry that...." etc. They're stupid though, don't know how to drive a manual, and remember, they get 10mpg and handle like sh*t. As for my dad, he is against modding cars at all and just says something like "gee it didn't come from the factory like that so why do you want it." Hell, he got pissed when I took the CIVIC and EX emblems off! Oh well, whatever makes me happy....

Many people have said that only young people are in to tunning imports and their parents think imports are crap. Here is a totally diff view, 6 years ago when i was 15 I and my whole family moved to America from Poland. When i was about 13 i saw a Chevy Corsica(first american car i saw in Poland)i though it looked awasome. Then i watched Night Rider and i was totally sold. At 15 we came here and my parents bought a Chevy Caprice. At about 120000 it over heated right as i was entering the freeway. The second time it overheated was on 4th of July when we went camping in the mountains with friends. The trafic was huge and a chanell 15 truck stoped next to us and pulled out the camera, my dad made it clear we weren't in the mood for an interview. Traded that peace of crap for a Nissan we got $1500 for it. After that my dad had another Chevy that one was sold for $500, don't even get me started on that one. I have 2 brothers and 4 cars in the household. Two Nissan's and two Honda's. My little bro had a 88 Crx with a B16a swamp and all the goods. My dad helps my with my mods and he would never buy a domestic again. One of my frineds had a Ford till it overheated in the desert and she drove it till the engine melted down cuz she didn't want to get stuck in the desert. Sold that crap and got a Toyota. I love my Civic but my bro says its slow when I feel like going fast I take his crx, when i feel like turning heads i take my Civic. Dang thats a lot of typing i guess i had to vent too! Peace!

Just tell your dad that if you had the same amount of money that he had spent on his corvette...you could buy a 99-00 civic si, put a turbo and whatever else in it and smoke his ***

If your dad doesn't support you, don't expect him to. Sometimes, a parent's word isn't worth sh't.

"It isn't a Corvette." No offense to you, but is he blind?

You can always tell your dad that when it comes to longevity - your Honda is like the cat, and his is the dog... your car will live 9 times the life of his purebred "American prided" car.

Unless he has a truck that's domestic... domestic trucks last pretty long still but who truckin cares??

my dad's the same way.. he told me that my car should only be used to get to school and back and theres no reason for me to be modding it in anyway.... he said "don't act like a little kid anymore by messing with your car" dood.. i don't give a fu ck what he has to say... i pay for my own car... i pay for my own mods, i put gas in the tank, i maintain the car therefore he shouldn't have any say on what i do to it... it gets me pissed whenever he brings it up... most other dad's would support there son's in the activity that they love instead of putting them down... this is the precise reason why people hate what they do in life... either because they were forced to do something or they gave up on the thing they loved because of the lack of moral support... i say on them...forget them... follow your heart...

Runaway,

You just need to be a little more thick-skinned. This is just the age old ribbing all car owners put up with.
Feel free to dish out some of your own to your pops and friends. If they are really your friends, they should be able to deal with it.

I get the same stuff from my friends in the Mustang club I belong to. No big deal.

I read the same garbage on this site all the time about how domestic cars suck and Civics have better resale values, etc.

Don't sweat it. If we all drove and liked the same cars, we'd go nuts.

Now, if you want to show a 'vette your tail lights, you can do it with ANY car, it's just going to cost you a lot of $$$ to build an economy car that can do that. If you start with a 300ZX, Supra, RX7 TT, or something like that, then it's much easier.

Have fun, and dish out some crap of your own. Don't just sit there, man...bench racing is part of the fun!

ha, its funny, i dont live with my dad but he was with me when I bought my civic. He is totally into me keeping my car stock. The next time I saw him, I had tint and altezzas, and he didnt even notice. Thought they were factory for all he could remember. Now I have rims and exhaust, and getting my body kit tomorrow. Maybe he wont notice
Nothing like people not supporting what you do. At least I dont go out and spend my money on enormous amounts of crack...thats what I like to say! Just have to do what you like to do and whatever makes you happy
