Vtec...Nothing Special!!

Not to start any wars here, but I drove one of my buddies Si (EX) this weekend, and I can honestly say that I could not feel any difference when the Vtec kicked in. I know it only pushed 12 more hp, and 1 more one pound foot of tourque compared to the LX, (which is what I own) but I couldn't even hear the Vtec??? Just wondering as to why people spent the little extra money on the Si, or EX, and if they can feel the difference or hear it kick in, because I know I can't

P.S. - If you bought the Si or EX solely for the purpose of the moonroof, then I understand, thanx...Mike

you are very right, honda SOHC VTEC motors are nothing amazing (better then most motors in our class i belive).....but go for a ride in a DOHC VTEC powered car, such as a integra gs-r, and you WILL FEEL the difference when v-tec engages, along with hear it (especialy if the car has exhaust).......plus there is NOTHING like a 8k rpm redline

Well it aint a turbo and it aint the v-tec charge you get in say...a prelude so dont expect that, however, it does give the car an extra pull, and it is somewhat noticible through the first 3 gears. People are expecting the thing to wind up like a car that has about 50% more horsepower. However, speaking from experience, if you want to really see the difference, trying lining it up with an si/ex. The only way you'll really see the difference is when both car are next to one another. I had this debate a lil while back with a group of friends and we settled it by taking my si against my friends lx and I won be a sufficient margin, about 3 - 4 car lengths and was noticibly pulling away (according to observers). And that includes the weight of my amps and subs and rims. From my view as my revs climbed, i pulled away harder, and I assume thats the v-tec advantage.

Yea, our VTEC isn't sheiitttt...........it sucks.......
the reason I bought EX, was#1.....moonroof
#2....almost the price of a DX(I got a good deal).....
#3.....12 horses is 12 horses........look @ all the aftermarket crap.......I/H/E....doesnt even add up to that extra 12 that comes w/ the EX....................turbo=Lx......although the compresion is'nt that much difference....
peace

If you want to feel pull go drive something with the VVTL-I engine in it. The V-TEC in the ludes sucked. Or at least the last gen did.

I agree, I didn't know what RPM the cam changeover was until i put in the intake/header/ehxaust. Now, when it kicks in at around 4,5000 RPM, it feels like a slight shove from behind, but only under certain circumstances. I have to be alone, and concentrating to even feel it.
