Question Nissan Sentra SE-R Spec V ?

This guy that I work with is selling his '06 Nissan Sentra SE-R Spec V with 13K miles. He has aftermarket Nismo 17's on it and put Nismo Intake and Exhaust on it. And he also has coilovers on it also. He keeps it in really tip top shape, and I see it everyday at work and have even driven it a couple of times...Anyway he was asking $15,500 for it.

Looks exactly like this one (without the lip kit):

Anyway I was just asking your guys opinion about this deal because I was considering it...I don't know too much about Nissan, but IT seems like a pretty well built car...

Thanks for any input...

Great power and comfortable ride but I've heard they have issues with headgaskets blowing.

My friend has a black one. Stock pretty much, with tint and debadged it. It's a pretty nice car. I don't like the seats though, I think they are uncomfortable. Good cars though.

I've heard they're nice cars. Kelly Blue Book for it is only 14k tho for excellent.
I don't think you'll be disappointed if you got it, so its up to you if you want to spend the money.

^ That's funny, I was sitting in it and I really liked the seats and the material they are made of...like neoprene or whatever it's called. Plus it is black interior..and right now I have tan interior (yuck)...

About the headgaskets blowing, that is pretty major...hopefully it is a rare thing though...yikes..

Thanks

Yeah I looked at that...I remember when he first bought it not even a year ago he said he paid around 18K for it, plus he put the wheels and other things on it. I think I would be lowballing the hell out of him if I offered $14K. I was thinking $15K for everything straight up. He put a system in there but is taking it out...

I used to own an '03 spec. Nice cars, very torquey. The issues with the head gaskets were specific to '01 and '02 specs. Also they had pre-cat issues, but nothing a header wouldn't take care of . I'd check to see if he was running the stock conti's on the nismo rims too. They were very poor for dry traction. Also spec's require you run premium fuel or they WILL ping. 15k not too bad, just be advised they don't hold resale as good as a honda.

Very good info, thanks! Premium fuel though? WTF? That is garbage...lol. I'm not gonna jump into another econobox only to put premium fuel into it...haha. I'm gonna do some more research on that...

That is not an econobox motor. You gotta pay to play.

There were no 01 specs, they were released in 02. A header won't take care of the pre-cat problems because my friend has blown 2 stock cats and 3 aftermarket cats.

The engine pulls hard until about 4500 then slows down so it is very torquey but not much high end. They do have poor traction and the shifter is kinda crappy. The engine can be PITA to work on, but the suspension is easy. Remember the rear suspension is a beam not fully independent. I like the torque and it is fun to drive, but I wouldn't get one.

Thumbs down

Owned a new 04 SpecV. Hated it.

(love it on the test drive, cause it was FUN!)

After a few months...

Hard, noisey ride. The torque-steer made it almost undriveable. I was locked out of 5th gear more than once when fast accelerating into freeway traffic (had to let the tach drop into the 3000's before I could shift outta 4th).

Gas mileage was 23 on a good day, 20 on a bad one.

Rear leg room was bad too.

The upside: I could blast anyone off the line and the doors/rear deck were very easy to play with (audiowise).

I traded it straight across for my 02 civic EX after only 5months of owning it.

The pre-cat is part of the stock header, so by removing and replacing with an aftermarket one ie. nismo the pre-cat is also removed. I forgot about the rear being a beam not independent, another downside.

I know there is a precat and a cat...but my friend replaced his header with AEBS and still blows his cat's (not precat). The torque doesn't do well with the cat.

The AEBS header gets rid of both cats. Even if you get a cheap ebay header that is a "shorty" header and only removes the precat, there are no issues with the secondary cat breaking up.

The other thing to watch out for is the butterfly screws on the butterfly valves. Often times if they are not tightened with loctite, a butterfly valve will drop into one of the cylinders.

Very fun car though.

Re: Nissan Sentra SE-R Spec V ?

it will be a lot different from a honda (rev for power, no torque) but it will be fun.

Actually, the 02's were one of the worst, because that was the first year for the spec v.

Re: Nissan Sentra SE-R Spec V ?

i've driven one before, and i didn't really care for the way they feel... the power band is kinda bleh and it handles odd coming from driving the civic for so many years. i didnt like the steering feel at all. that price seems a bit high, even though areas differ: seems like the guy wants some money back from putting work into it

i know for sure its a better motor to mod and build, rather than our d17's.
