Fit + Mugen = purdy car. See them all the time around here. Course I'm in Japan... I've seen all types of modifications on Fits. From bone stock to full Mugen. I must say, if I had to buy a small car, I would go with the Fit. But I dunno what they are like in the States.

As a side note... this is my 500th post! Only took 5 years and some change!!

Car companies do make small turbocharged cars. That is NOT the formula. If it truelly is the way most ppl see it, WRX turbo Forester, Cobalt SS, and SRT-4's would sell better. Gas milleage are not that great on those cars anyway. Put your foot down on the pedal, get some boost going and bye bye gas milleage. I average 21MPG on my EJ20 compared to when 35 I had my Civic. When WRX first came out, it was like $1.65 for 93 octane so things were different. The market is changing..... there was no subcompact class until recently. xB is NOT a waste of $. It's a good investment. You get space, good gas milleage, reliabilty. SOme people just want a basic mode of transportation. Not everyone has money for a Lexus RX. Heck, a lot of ppl dont even have money for a new Civic! If a car buyer is interested in speed, comfort, looks and nothing else, obviously these cars arent for those folks. and neither is a Civic..........

Yeah I hear you. But you are wrong becouse these cars directed at young buyers who's gonna want more power and performance anyway. And they will have to invest heavilly in performance mods to make it go faster, so they will spend more than they saved and def won't save in gas,caouse they will mode it.

Thus it makes more sense to make them more powerfull from the get go. If cars like WRX would cost about 20k young people, their intended target group will buy them faster. That's very easy! Woudn't you buy 20k WRX or Cobalt insted of Honda Fit? And you won't even have to mod!

get a fit with a k20 swap considering the mugen supercharger will only get it to 149hp... ive actually seen a fit with a k20 swap doing a rally race on some forum

haha agreed, this debated is a little too heated, simmer down guys

I would have to agree from the stand point of I dont like the hatch look, and genrally americans have been hesitant buying hatches. Europe and asia love em though. But you have to remeber subcompacts are the real bottom line class, its a small car so the only way to make the car have useful space is to have it be a hatch. Honda's goal with the fit is just to make a car that can still be fun to drive but is the cheapest thing theyll sell. Its a decent car and im glad subcompacts are catching on here, except the xB that thing is just ugly (and think of the drag on a straight up box).

Did anyone read the subcompact comparo in Car and Driver this month? The Fit absolutely spanked (not only performance, but fit, finish, erginomics, handling, etc) the Versa, Yaris, and a sh!tload of other little cars.
Apparently it did the emergency lane-change test at a faster speed than a Vette Z06!!!
The C/D editors loved the car, and they're definitely car freaks and racers.

see, unlike the Scion brand, Nissan and Honda arent targetting the tuner crowd. They are targetting young people or older people that need basic transport, and want to save gas. And get this, the WRX was NOT aimed towards the tuner crowd until they introduced the WRX TR for 06. From a tuning standpoint I agree that it will be better to just buy a car like the WRX. And yes, buying a xA/xB and then dumping another $10K is not the wisest choice. But then, I would say percent wise (# of cars modded/ # of cars bought), more ppl mod WRX's than other cars in the market. Leaving a WRX stock is definately not bringing out its potential. Most buyers that buy CIvics DONT mod them. And most people that buy Caliber/Versa/Fit will probably not mod them either. Scion purposely made their cars seem fast..... Honda doesnt do that.

I agree with the above...The ticket to selling this car is for fuel cost..not tuning...yeah you could make it look cool, but it's just like the 7th gen..you're not going to make it fast without swap or boost..I'd buy one..I think it's hot
