about a month ago, i was looking to get an 06 wrx wagon. i had about 3 grand to put down, the car was $23.2k, and insurance would have been 119 a month, up from 108.5 a month. i make about $20-25 an hour (varies because of tips), and could have easily bought the car, but since i am only 20, and still in school, and work, i realised i should stay with a car under $20k now.
with the car i ended up getting, it has better performance than the civic, worse gas milage, and doesn't look as good IMO. my payments on my civic were $239.24 a month, and i had exactly 3 years left to pay it off on the day i got my new car. my new car is $21 dollars more per month, and its a 48 month loan, meaning that i am only going to be paying for one more year that if i kept the civic. and the sweet thing is i made money on trade in, driving the civic for 2 years and 48k miles.
anyways, back on track. if i were you i would evaluate your priorities and see if owning such a car is really that big of a thing to you. i mean, if you stay with your civic (im guessing there is nothing wrong with it), and make $12 an hour, you could put away a lot more money than if you were just working paycheck to paycheck trying to pay for your car that you will likely just drive to work and back. with myself, i could easily afford the wrx, but staying with a cheaper car, i can save more money, and enjoy other things in life, instead of working more than i need to.
in fact, im thinking i might sell my new car, after i get my project i just picked up the other day up and running. its a 92 mazda protege, and as many people don't know, the BP06 1.8liter dual cam motor has an iron block, and in the 323 gtx/gtr versions from japan, came boosted from the factory, and can handle about 25 psi reliably. i will probably just stay n/a though, but yeah, it will be nice not to have a car payment.

O well I'll have to look for something else or see how things goes with what dealership I work at and how much they pay, along with whatever side work I do and how often.
GET IT TO WHERE IT LOOKS LIKE YOUR DADS THE DAILEY DRIVER OF THE STI OR EVO AND HAVE HIM LABLE YOU AS A DRIVER, IT WORKS AND ITS WAY CHEAPER I KNOW. SO REALLY IT LOOKS LIKE A 52 YR IS DRIVING THE CAR HIS INSURANCE WILL GO UP A TAD BUT NOT BY THAT MUCH AND ALSO HIS NAME WILL HAVE TO BE ON THE TITLE BUT IF YOU HAVE A TRUST WORTHY DAD LIKE MINE IT DOESNT MATTER.
I guess I'll chime in. I pay almost $400 a month for my STi. I pay about $150 for insurance....27 and a perfectly clean record. Gas.....well It's not my daily driver so I fill up twice a month at most...so $60 a month for gas.
The reason the STi/EVo and some Porsche's are alot for insurance is because they are in the turbo/hi performance category. That came directly from my insurance rep. I asked.
460 whp or crank? What mods?

I'm 24 and I have an 06 Evo. It $130 a month and that includes a 00 celica GT-S that I have liability on also. I could not imagine paying over $200 a month for a car, and $500 is completely insane
I would never pay more for insurance than my car payment.
