Saw a Turbo'd Saturn!

Well I was heading to a far away place this morning for a court case (which i lost) and see this saturn coupe (97-00??) come rolling up behind me on the highway, I change into the right lane and check him out, looked like a dealer's car from Saturn of York (PA, and judging from the stickers), had a nice WW body kit, and then I check it again to see an intercooler hidden back there, the guy goosed it and def. showed me it wasn't one of those plastic intercoolers. Hate to say it, but I was impressed, haha, now I am going to hell. Peace!

- Haha I dunno about Saturns being slow... I hate to say it, but my mom's Saturn SL2 can beat my friend's 2000 Ex. They come stock with 140hp (i think?) and DOHC. The Saturn is actually lower to the ground stock then my Civic is!

I didn't come here to fight, just give everyone some insight on the Saturn community and cool stuff like that.

Intruder:
What color was that Saturn? I may be able to find out who owns it if I don't already know.

civicrollin18s: I resent that. Go here and watch this stuff: N20 SL2 That's not me but that is one cool guy that knows his stuff. Do the altitude calculations and I think he is running 14's or better on stock internals.

form3hide:
Given the conditions SL2's have been known to keep up and beat your cars. Please don't take offence.

GhettoCivic:
DOHC Saturns have 124hp at the flywheel from the factory. These are all SL2's, SC2's and SW2's (wagon.) SOHC Saturns have 100hp at the flywheel from the factory. SL, SL1, SC, SC1, SW, and SW1 In most cases the loss of power on a Saturn is about 20%. (i.e. My car had ~85hp to the wheels from the factory) IMO, all the Saturn models are lower to the ground than the 7th gen Civic.

Red2k1Civic:
Thanks for the heads up bud.

Now some back ground. I've come to your board spouting all kinds of stuff that may or may not be true. So I hope to convince you that I've got some credibility or at least show you that I'm not a ***** trying to start trouble.

I drive a Medium Red 2000 SL. 1.9l SOHC engine with a 50 shot of N20 delivered via NOS wet fogger kit. The mod list also includes: Custom 2.25 cat back, Flowmaster 40 series, ZEX two step colder plugs, and a number of non engine related things.

I post heavily
HERE using the handle of "JB” if you care to take a look at what’s going on over there. Of course there are some harsh feelings towards Civic and other cars of the like. Most Saturn enthusiasts feel like we get the short end of the stick and have to fight for what ever we can. Take this for example Saturn is a company that has been making cars for around 10 yrs and nobody has put out a turbo setup that has proven to be reliable the whole time for any model of car made by the Corporation. Given there really hasn't been much aftermarket enthusiasm until a few years back, but still. A big deal to a lot of people is that we don't have Altezzas for any of our cars. I don't want this to be a sob story but those are a couple of examples of why some of the Saturn community feels the way it does.

I only ask that you don't go over there causing trouble. I didn't bring any to you and I hate seeing people come over to the board just to start a fight.

As far as my thoughts on Civics’ go, I like the appearance stock and I'm also a big fan of the OEM body kit as well as the Wings West one. (In reference to the 2k1 body) Man, and what can be done to those cars seems endless. I think my only complaint or negative opinion about some of the Civics I've seen is the insanely loud muffler/exhaust setup people put on them. Nothing against anybody that does that, it’s just not my taste.

I'm open to any questions comments or whatever you've got for me about Saturns or anything else. From the numbers here it looks like I could provide some insight into this and this alone. I know a pretty good deal about Nitrous and how it works for a Saturn so if I can I'll help however I can.

The saturn was a maroon color, and thanks for sticking up for the 'other' guys on this site, I hate people who flame against a type of car....

Thanks for the warm welcome. I honestly appreciate it.

Intruder:
Ah, ok I should have pictures for you by the end of the day then. I'm sure I know which one you're talking about now.

mattskav:
I'm pretty sure it's that one. I only know of one Reddish SC Turbo with a body kit.

FocusKiller: (Great name man)
The SOHC's come with 114 ft/lbs of torque, that’s why a SL can run with an EX and keep up, with a good driver, give the EX a run for his money. The DOHC's have ~140ft/lbs of torque, I can't find exact #'s on the site any more; I'll have to ask.

i think saturns are but ugly, that sc2's design is garbage, and I hate the headlights on saturns. Plus its domestic so it'll prolly break down b/c it wasnt manufactured before 1973 when american cars were good. I see more saturns burning oil every day. I've personally smoked a stock sc2 with my then stock 2k1ex. thats my opinion

Have any of you guys seen the new Saturn VUE? I think the front of it is kinda weird. Wonder how it will hold up versus other small SUV's. (CRV for example )

What were the conditions you beat that SL2 under?

My dad has a Saturn and he is one of the worst drivers and doesnt take car of it. but that thing keep going. he's had it about 5-6 i think and not one problem, unlike most domestics Saturn are reliable. Usually when i'm done washing my Civic i wash his just becuase i feel bad for how dirty it always is.

uhh sunny, highs in the 8...

city streets, 3 runs, with a smile and wave at the end. My self and a passenger, He had a passenger with him as well. we ran three from stop signs, with his passenger starting the race with a "go." I cooked him 3 times by 1/2, 3/4, and about 1 car lengths. as I said, bone stock rides, flat land. I've been driving a stick since I was a wee tot, so i suppose i may have ran through the gears better, but I could here his ride (yes, we were both stock, my intake wasnt making any sound back then) and he was on it and shifting very well. so its legit. I didnt beath the living pants off him, but in the world of stock *** 4 cyls 1 car at the end is nice. He got me off the line every time, but I revved high and would make up the small lead quickly.

Intruder:
Man, that rocks that you saw the Fox concept. To the enthusiast community that car holds a fair amount of mystery. We really don't know what's under the hood or the plans for any other modifications. The owner has only posted once at xtreme asking if we had any questions, lots were ask, but none were answered. Makes you wonder.

bambuski:
Thanks for the props man. Saturn makes pretty good stuff most of the time, but that oil burning is somewhat of an issue in some cases.

Snowman1:
That Saturn in the picture should run mid to low 13's. Running 3 psi on an SL2 should get it down to 14's. The Saturn in the video's I linked to is an SL2 with a 50 shot that runs ~14's.

avenger:
Thanks for the open info. That would do it then. From what I know the SL2 should jump you every time, but the power band on Honda's are higher, so as you said you will wind up beating him in the long run. So I agree. I'd only be able to keep with an EX if they were in an auto, or weren't very good with the manual.

N20 and others... I contacted the owner and got some numbers....
Gude Head, JE Pistons, Crower Rods, NX nitrous kit, Custom Turbo....
The car puts down over 250 fwhp w/o nitrous. He ran a 13.7 @105 w/o tapping the nitrous. If you ask me, this is one hell of a car, domestic or not... Good thing I didn't try and race him, haha Peace!
