Advice on accident?
Seems like there are a lot of people getting in accidents recently...
Well anyways I was coming home from work this monday and a woman rear ends me while I'm at a stop sign. We pull over and I can't see any damage to my car (even though it gave my car a big crunch when she hit)... only thing I see is the styrofoam under the bumper cracked in one place. Cop comes by and lets us exchange information, doesn't do anything. So now I have her phone num, address, insurance info, ect. and I'm wondering what to do.... There's not really any damage to my car that I can see. I figure I'll call her insurance (she's at fault %100 in fla for rear end damage) and not even tell my insurance. Then they can pay for me to have my car checked out and see if there's any damage not obvious to me. Good idea? Just want to run it by some people with experience
thanks guys, andrew

Well, since your insurance company prolly will not be paying out, go to a body shop you like and have them write up a phony estimate and say there was something cracked. Then get a new aftermarket rear bumper. They are still getting paid for the labor to put it on, so they will probably wont have a problem doing it.
In PA I know that if you call the other person's insurance, they will get your Insurance company's information and attempt to verify your story. So be careful, you might end up screwing yourself.
Listen to me because I've been there, done that...
If it is her fault, tell your insurance. Let them deal with her insurance. They wont raise your rates because you were hit. You don't know if, one month down the road, your tranny is screwed up because of the accident. Tell your insurance. Let them document it. Go get your car looked at by the body shop. If its her fault, she is liable. Thats the law.

Does anyone besides me see something crappy with people that want money just b/c of a small accident that didnt do crap to them or thier car? I can understand if there is/was some damage, but if not thats just pretty lame. How would you feel if you hit someone's bumper from behind and didnt do anything to it at all, and next month your insurance is up 100$ a month? Think about it...

I did and if the person was stupid enough to rearend him that way, they deserve to have their insurance rate hiked up because they are probably accident prone. Think about it.

Well I though about it and talked to my parents... decided that I will report it and get a new rear bumper most likely. Sort of feel sorry for the woman who hit me just hard enough to cause an accident on her record, but I see a few scratches and a little bit of a bend where she hit me. Had my dad look at it for a second opinion and he noticed. Going to call my insurance tomorrow and let them handle it. My insurance shouldn't go up because she's at fault, right? And I just had an accident in December, but that was partially my fault

i totally agree with you on that, and anyone who has ever been in the other persons shoes will too. think about it before you go and try to get money out of it, youre not just hurting the insurance company. i rear-ended someone in my 88 dodge omni in the rain with my cheap and bald tires. it didnt do any damage at all to my car and hers simply got some black stuff on the rear bumper that wiped off. she could have called her insurance company and reported it and claimed damage but she didnt
if you have minor damage to your car that wont cost much, find out what it will cost and call the person that hit you first. they probably have a deductable that they would have to pay if you went through the insurance company, so see if they want to just pay you instead and avoid rates going up. when i got backed into in my omni, the girl had a $250 deductible, so she gave me that much and we called it even (since i had no intention of fixing the damage on a $300 car anyway, and the doors still worked, though the actual cost of repair probably would have been over $1000)
so the point of this long post is: think about what you would want done if you were the other person, because someday you might be in that position and what goes around, comes around
and i would say call her, and tell her what the damage costs, if she has a high deductable she might want to just pay it especially if all you need is a rear bumper
