I saw for the 06 civic, if you want to add xm to your factory "xm ready" cd player/navi you need a kit from honda that costs $400 for the tuner and equipment. wtf? At best buy i see kits from $20-$100. Who do they think will buy that?

Its 650 from BMW for sirius. They can charge whatever they want, its honda. Meanwhile you'll figure out why everyone just goes to best buy

actually the 400$ charge is for lifetime membership never another bill for the sirius service at all. I know this due to considering adding it to my current clarion HU
I know that I was amazed when the accessories rep came in to talk to me during the purchase of my '01 sedan:
$500 + labor for spoiler; $399 for tint; $250 for floormats; $500 + labor for foglights...
...uh, no thanks, I'll pass.

Its easy for car dealers to add "accessories" onto the purchase of a vehicle because most people finance and instead of it being "$400" like it is to us, to the person financing see's it as just "$1" extra on there car payment.
We do dealership work (I work at a car audio dealer part time) and those people almost double what we charge for stuff when they sell a car (We sell a NAV unit to a dealer for $1700, they mark it at $3000 to the customer).

I only referred to a basic economical reason.
Didn't the thread starter say bestbuy is selling the same unit for much less? Are you following the thread at all?

As I said before, you only need to "add" it to the non-navi models. The navi radio does not need the accessory, only the monthly subscription

The idea is "If the dealer installs it its under warranty" Well no its not. When it would break they dealer would simply make an appointment with their customer and drive the car to us. So it took more time to fix. It also means that you miss out on the chance to talk directly with the person fixing the problem. So often times it doesnt get fixed to your standards. Its comedy.
Basic economical reason only works in the books.

Expensive. Its a business and addon - alot of places make most of their money on add-ons - Look at Earls, Boston Pizza - addons are money makers, would you like meat sauce with that Boston Brute? - F*Ck NO!
