2.25" inch piping kills HP???
I bought a muffler with the 2.25" piping and the guy at meineke told me that i lose alot of low-end power with the big piping, he sed its better to leave it at about 1.38" b/c its gotta build up a little bit of back pressure....so whats the truth..i dont think he could be lying...??? or could he be b/c he hates ricers....well someone find out!

No 2.25 is not fine (if by fine you mean you wish to retain all ur stock power)...you will lose power. I have a custom cat back w/ 2.25 so I know....don't go over 2.25 on your little 4 cyl. engine or it will be crap.
Also, the larger piping is what makes the exhust sound louder, especially if you remove the resonator. If you stick w/ the stock piping and add a new muffler you really wont notice anything but a new look on ur cars ***.

That guy at Meineke doesn't know what he is talking about. Get 2.25" piping. Nothing bigger than that though or you will lose power. Like everyone said, you will lose some low-end torque, but gain a little hp in the mid-high rpms. If you get a CAI that will help compensate for the loss in low end torque...
blue meanie...actually i face the same situation like u....i ask the meineke too..he gives me the same answer like urs...i just wondering wat is the real hp gain......
so should i just go ahead and put the custom 2.25 piping/???

i dont see what the big deal is
im not racing int he lower rpm's except for the launch which is about all of three seconds
you can keep the low end
i look for the long run

Yeh, I agree....I go mostly for top end power anyways.....and if they ever come out with a Super for these cars, I will
get that to balance out the low and high-end. Besides, VTEC doesn't even kick in until after 4000 RPM !!

I have a friend that owns a muffler shop. I asked him about it and he said that 2.25 is fine thats what puts on everything. Only time you need to go bigger is if you are running any type of forced induction. (turbo, nitrous, sugercharger)

You're right, most people don't consider nitrous oxide to be forced induction. Kinda weird since it essentially raises compression just like FI. I guess the term FI only refers to forcing more air/fuel into the combustion chamber through the use of pressure greater than atmospheric.
