everyone will tell you to get the gixxer, and its a nice bike, comes fairly well modified stock, it has a steering stablilizer and all and it handles okay, but the 600RR is a sweet bike. I personally have a F4i, and im going to upgrade to a repsol 1000rr in the spring, but with the honda you get honda quality, im not to sure about the suzuki quality. Theres talk on the bike forums about the suzuki frames cracking at the welds and stuff like that. Kinda scary, id say get the 600rr

I myself would chose the r6. i got one and i love it. handles well and accelerates hard!!
out of your choices go with the 600rr, exhaust under the seat looks tight.!
I test drove both of those bikes before I purchased my gsx-r 600. It really all comes down to which bike you feel more comfortable on. I just felt more comfortable on the gsx-r. When I bought my bike it was named sportbike of the year in 04.
Get a CBR600F4i if its your first bike, the GSX-R is way too light and squirrely in the front end and if you don't know what you're doing that can get you into trouble really quickly. The RR stands for 'race replica', if its your first bike, opt for the F4i, -much- more forgiving. Barring that, maybe an older 900 cc would be good, less of a jerky 600cc powerband that can catch you off guard.

those reasons you mentioned are the only reason why i bought an F4i as my first bike. Ive ridden it about 15,000 miles and prolly gonna pick up a repsol 1000rr in the spring. I have friends that bought gixxers as their first bikes and have dumped them doin the twisties... R6 is the same way... stick with the honda though... remember it may look good when its new, but if you dont know how to ride it, and you drop it, its not gonna look to good!

Honestly, both bikes are nearly identical in terms of performance and weight. There's no point in even looking at the specs of the bike. Quality of the bikes will also be roughly the same.
I say go to your local bike shop and sit on both bikes...even better, go sit on all the 600's. Buy whatever you're most comfortable on, fits you best or what you think is the best looking bike. For a beginner, hp/tq numbers and handling characteristics means ****...
Good luck be careful and happy riding

thanks for all the advise, too bad i will have to wait until the end of next month before i can go and sit on 'em. both the honda and suzuki places are out of stock of both and won't have the new models in until late nov.
^^ totally agree. I think you should consider a used bike (non sport) and ride it for 1 season then trade up to a new bike once you get your skills developed.
You're only 19 dude...Kind of risky to ride a new 600 sport bike. what will your insurance be like?

yea you should go with a used bike, and whatever you do dont give your friends rides on your bike until after you've gotten lots of ride time and experience with your bike so you know how it handles and stuff, -_-;; unlike someone i know, i got tossed of an R6 while we were riding down the twisty parts of sunset blvd and i almost got my right leg taken out, my right knee cap almost broke in half and my skin ripped apart so YEA it's pretty dangerous haha, sucks for me, but good warning for you i guess.
oh and it's been about 9 months since the accident and i still have no nerve connection on my right knee cuz of the way my skin got torn apart, and i think it's still puffy around and below the knee cap and it's still bruised underneath the knee cap so, no snowboarding for me this season -_-;; EFF!

I started on a 01 R6 actually still have it but selling it now. Do not get a new bike as your first. Definetely go with a kawi 250 or 500,suzuki gs500 or some of the older 600's like honda f2 or 3.
As much as i love my R6 i would not have gotten it as my first bike. It is very fast very light and things can get crazy in a hurry. Im also 19 and i think of myself as pretty responsible but once you get on it and you get going it is soooooo tempting to rip the throttle open and you can get careless pretty easy. Starting off small will make you a much better rider later on.
And I was quoted 6K/year for full insurance (which I would recommend to anyone with a bike) my bike only cost me 5K lol so there's no way I will pay that much insurance. Oh and def take the MSF and read these:

good luck in whatever you choose
Okay I didn't read the whole thread but I've been riding for quite some time, and I swear by gixxers.
HOWEVER, if this is your first bike DO NOT get a gixxer. It's not a beginner's bike. The CBR is more a bike for the masses. It's more user friendly, and has a much easier riding stance. Easier on your whole body, and more comfortable. With a gixxer you're riding in a constant forced tuck, and the gixxer is more fidgety...one quick flick of your elbows and your bike will be in the dirt. The Honda is more forgiving.

i had thought about getting a ninja 250 (one reason being they are so much cheaper) and the fact like you guys said that it is smaller. the insurance isn't bad on either bike for me, i was quoted like 75$/month with full coverage, thats alot cheaper than what i am paying for my civic.
i had also thought about getting a used bike but alot of people tell me that buying a used bike isn't that good of an idea because you dont know how the owner drove it, which is the same thing with cars but i know alot more about cars than what i do bikes, is there anything to look for when buying a used bike that might tell how the bike has been taken care of?
