I had my car towed for parking in the wrong spot in an apartment complex.
They used a dolley so they didn't have to open my doors.
My car is an a/t and it had the e-brakes up.
Would have been a different story with a flatbed since they need to roll the car up...or can they just force it?

well, yeah, i meant they use dollies. i think they use dollies then stick it on a flatbed. the towing company broke my window trying to break into my car once. the second time they towed it they used dollies. which costs like twice as much. bastards. lol. it was in different places, but same company. i guess if they can't raise up your front wheels, it's harder, but if they have a flat bed, it doesn't matter. i was in chicago's chinatown, and i saw the tow company drag an suv out of a spot by connecting a chain to the front tow hook and dragging the thing backwards out of the spot. i'm sure they f*cked up the car somehow. i hate tow companies btw
they can tow anything, ive seen cars get towed away with the car tranny in gear, or park or with ebrake on dragging down the street whether it be fwd, or rwd. theives dont car if they jack up your car unless they want the drivetrain stuff.

they can toe it in gear for a short distance and the transmision will not be destroyed. it just messes up the tires a bit.

if they've got a tow truck, they probably know what the F they are doing to take your car, the best thing you can do is hide from all the damn tow trucks...
i've actually had this discussion on another forum before...someone suggested to park next to a curb, back in, turn the wheel all the way towards the curb. If your vehicle is lowered, that's a bonus as well since they can't get dollies and the tow mechanism under the front bumper, etc. Put it in gear, and also have the ebrake up.
If your car isn't lowered, and has a great height, and you don't really give a **** about your car, here's the strategy:
1) park straight into the spot, preferably a spot with a curb on the side
2) turn your wheel all the way opposite to the curb (see 2b), if you don't have a curb and you know your vehicle won't hit the curb infront, pull up all the way until your wheels hit the curb (usually for suv's and trucks, don't suggest it with coupes/sedans) by putting the front wheels right up against front curb, they can't get the dollie under the front wheels
2b) once your car has the wheel all the way turned against the curb, back up a little bit so the tire hits the curb and leave it there
3) put your car in gear or park and have the ebrake up
^the above strategy is almost IMPOSSIBLE for tow truck companies to tow your vehicle away. My friend owns a towing company back in my home town, and he said those are the ONLY 2 ways where a vehicle cannot be towed without damaging the vehicle.
A bonus is to also have some sort of steering lock device (club etc)

Other than totally blocking the car in, there's really nothing you can do to stop it from getting towed. Even the legit guys are willing to drag the car around half the time. Sideways, in gear, with the parking brake set, really doesn't make a difference.
your best bet is slapping a lo-jack sticker or a viper gps sticker on your window. other than that if they know they can sale your tranny for 1k theyre taking it. even if you catch them in the act they will have paper work for you to sign saying you did something.
