My 8th Gen thoughts
My 8th Gen thoughts
I know this is problably the 150th post on the subject. I just got back from a "Honda Special Event" to showcase the new Civic, restyled Accord, and Pilot. The Accord's new rear is nice. Now on to the Civic. I have an 2002, and I must admit I have been in a bit of denial as to how much an improvement the 2006s are. But after finally seeing them, they are much nicer than our cars in so many ways. The exterior is alot better looking in real life. The front is OK, the side looks great to me, very clean, no mouldings on the middle of the door, even the mirrors that I didn't like and the little window behing them look good. I like the balance of the profile with the wheels pushed to the corners of the car, very athletic. The rear looks so nice, very sporty and aggressive. I think that the look from the back with a bit of the side (3/4 look??) is the best of all. Inside it is alot more luxurious than ours, all the materials seem a step up and everything feels alot more solid (kinda like an Accord). The dash isn't as bad as I thought it would be, although a traditional one may look better. I love the steering wheel mounted audio (FINALLY). Even the backs of the front seats are a great improvement. It's not cloth/velour like ours, but a more durable, easier to clean and harder to stain material. Unfortunately I didn't get to drive it, too big of a line up (that's what happens when you give away free food and gifts). I assume driving it would have been impressive too. 140 hp vs 115 hp is a good improvement. I suspect it might be alot like driving the current Corolla.....very smooth but not overly sporty.
Well I have a ex so probably wouldn't be much different engine power wise then my 01. But they do look slick, I would pick a coupe up no problem if I was looking for another civic but the fact remains my next car will be a decent step up. The interior is pretty nice I sat in it and was like ahhh. The dash would take some getting used to but yeah feels kind of like a accord interior. The navigation screen and all that was annoying and bulky looking the non navigation is way cleaner looking.
Great job though by honda on the redesign but like anything else I would hold off buying on the first year. I lucked out on my civic but other people I know had issues with the 01's

Im gonna take a wait and see approach. I bought an 01' (no problems so far ..knock on wood) but this time im gonna wait for them to iron out the wrinkles. I also want a considerable step up so its either the new SI or swap for me. So it all depends how much the dealer tries to rip us off on the SI these next few years.
I would agree about waiting a year before getting an all new model. To many all new things on this Civic....the R18 engine, the drive by wire, among others. Knowing Honda they'll be fine, but like people have said, the 2001s seem to have more problems than other years. I was hoping to drive my car until it dies (10 years and 300 000+ km) so that would bring me to the second year of the 9th gen. But I am tempted after seeing this car (Oh and the coupe is very nice as well...I have to get a sedan). Nice to see that although it has moved up market, it's pricing isn't too bad, about $1000 more (In Canada) than the 2005s. Well worth it I think
Oh and those people who said the huge dash makes it feel kinda like a minivan....it's true. If you put a parking stub on the dash....you'll have to really stretch to get it back

i've seen more coupes on the road than i have sedans...the other day some douche tried to race me with his 06 and i could tell it was 5 spd cuz he did a burnout on a brand new car and than proceeded to get pulled over by the police....hahah it was quite a laugh...
another funny part was a 2006 rsx-s was tryin to race me on the 170 freeway to the I-5 here in socal and he went too fast for a non broken in engine than hes in front of course but i see a puff of smoke come out from under his car and it started to smell like **** in my car cuz of his dumb *** runnin a non broken in engine like he was...he slowed down to about 55 than i pulled up next to him to point and laugh
