I just found out my F150 (which also has a DBW system) was tuned by Ford to have what most would call a bad throttle response. Ford did this because when towing (which is why you buy a truck), you need the low end torque, so they gave about the first half of the gas pedal to 1/4 of the actual throttle, then the second half of the pedal controls the rest. The result is what feel like a bag lag or sloppy throttle.

Since then people have been complaining because with 5.4L and 300hp, the truck is slow, so Ford now has a reflash for the ECU that makes throttle position and pedal position more linear, the result is that people are now saying they have a new truck. They say there is far more power available and are much happier.

I can see this happening with the new Civic's.
