Ford Dealers Suck
So my sister drove until her pads were down to metal on metal in her 04 focus. She only has 10,000 miles on her car so she brought it to the dealer wondering what the noise was. They tell her she melted her caliper and grinded down both rotors and it would be 700 dollars atleast with a sweet hook up to fix the issue. So since she is a college student csus she doesnt have that much money. She calls me and tells me whats goin on so i make some calls to the dealer and ask them whats wrong and they tell me she must have a new drivers side caliper 2 new rotors and new brake pads and all the labor and everything would come to 700 since the calipers need to be replaced. So i then call a ford recycler in town and find 2 new rotors for 10 a piece and a new caliper for 35 which comes with a 6 month warranty i then went to pepboys and paid 16 to have the rotors resurfaced and to grab some dot3 then to autozone for the 27 dollar lifetime warranty pads. so in the end i spent 118 dollars. i get home and my sisters car is waiting for me i take off the wheel, brake pads and rotors. HMMM they said the brake pad was melted to the caliper no no it wasnt it was perfectly fine.
long story short:
Ford said 700 dollars and 4 hours to complete job. If i didnt buy the parts they said had to be replaced but ended up being fine it would have cost me 67 dollars and 45 minutes.

and you're surprised at this? it's a dealership. they are out to make money.
for example. honda charges about $70-$80 to replace the cabin air filter.
the filter alone is about $20 and takes less than 3 minutes to change. do the math on that labor charge.

i am down to work on my sisters car but at less than 15k miles i assumed let her get the 27 dollar oil changes. and i understand they are out to make money but why lie? i hate that they just made my sister think every mechanic is shady. when i worked at a car audio shop everyone thought we were shady even though we only did work they asked for it was odd. its like they assumed since we worked on cars we lied. and i have always defended mechanics but now f it they are dicks.

holy ****. Call Ford's head office and file a complaint!!! Or atleast call the dealership and ask to talk to the manager about that.
Don't let them get away with it... tell him you're completely unsatisified by their service and say you'll never buy a car from them again.

In other words, they charge you $60 for a $20 filter, and then $69 in labor for something that takes 3 minutes to do.

They have to offer discounts, when it costs the same price for a focus or civic, which would you choose? The only I would take the focus is if they pratically give me the thing

I say report the dealership to ford corporate and the BBB. Its illegal for mechanics to try to charge you for repairs you dont need.
