My bad, I forgot the SS, it's the Malibu Maxx SS. It orginally was going to have a 300hp 3.5L from the 3.5RL, but I guess GM dropped that. It not distorted info, the car isn't even out yet (I mean the SS version), and I saw the freaking thing with 300hp at the auto show a year ago, and it looked exactly like the 3.5RL engine, but I guess GM, decided 300hp was to much, so they just bumped the stock one up to 240hp and call it the SS now.

uuuummm no the 2.2l eco tech is the n/a motor the ion redline and cobalt ss have a destroked 2.0l ecotech. they are quick little cars and gm actaully makes gobbs of factory parts for them that can get you into the 1000hp range. the bottom end on those cars are really stout and can take a lot of boost. i own a 2.2l s10 and am a forum member on s10forum.com and also jbody.org. both have a lot of useful info on that motor. id check out j-body.org if you really paln to get one.

that is prostock cars. lingenfelter has a 1000+hp ecotec in a s10. i think it runs 8's ill look up some info for you on both, what most street guys are running and also some info on the late lingenfelters vehicles. he work hand in hand with gm to produce some pretty nutty motors and parts. ill dig some up so you can see. its really a great platform to work from.

you know i have read thousands of articles posted and i cant seem to find a single one.. but gm has just put out a tuner guide for the ecotec. this is a link to the book. in stock form you can produce 400hp from what gm states. this book gives you a complete list of parts and how to get 1000hp out of a eco tec. is that good enough. before lingenfelter died they were working on a 1200-1400hp ecotech and had sucessfully run a 7 sec. pass in a s10 equiped with a ecotec motor and 6 sec passed in rwd conversion compacts(sunfire, cavalier)

yeah but at that point you can hardly even call that the same engine. it's not like a vette you built up and then turbo'd. it's a completely different engine. not to mention you're talking tube frame cars.

when you say a cobalt SS can make 1000hp, i'm talking about a street driven car. not a professional tube frame dragster. that's not even a cobalt at that point.

there are street driven vettes, supras, etc, that make 1000hp.

yeah but they are dyno and trailer queens even they are hardly ever street driven. you said it wasnt do able. well it is. even though they are straight motor you show me one honda street car making 1000+hp and street driven. the whole purpose of build a motor with that much power is to get it down the track. in stock form you can make 400hp in an ecotec. that is as good as a 4g63. to have a stock rotating assembly be able to hold 400hp is pretty gnarly. that itself shows that the motor is capable of much more. read the article i posted and take a look at the gm tuner guide link i posted.

if you read my post i never stated that it was in a stock cobalt or sunfire. i stated that gm makes parts that can put them into the 1000+ hp range. which is exactly what i proved here. no argument there!

you may think it rediculous but really the cars you posted are trailer queens or dyno queens. so it not really fair to compare the 2 either. and i am talking 4cyl 1000+hp monsters. not 6cyl 2jz-gte's or ls1-6's v8's. big difference there. those cars produce much more hp and are much more performance oriented to begin with

As I said, you can hardly call that a 2.0 liter ecotec, much less a cobalt SS. YOU made it sound like "oh if you buy a cobalt SS you can get to 1000hp no problem with all these parts they offer". And that simply isn't the case.

even though they are straight motor you show me one honda street car making 1000+hp and street driven.
Show me one cobalt that is making 1000hp and is street driven.

if you read my post i never stated that it was in a stock cobalt or sunfire. i stated that gm makes parts that can put them into the 1000+ hp range. which is exactly what i proved here. no argument there!
Oh, so you just "left out" the fact that it wasn't in a cobalt or sunfire.

A. this discussion was about the cobalt AND its engine.

B. the cars YOU are talking about are not even cobalts/sunfires at the point they are making 1000hp, and their engines hardly qualify as the 2.0liter ecotec anymore.

C. you can take ANY CAR and make 1000hp if you are willing to put it into a tube frame, dump thousands of dollars into it, and do whatever it takes.

you may think it rediculous but really the cars you posted are trailer queens or dyno queens. so it not really fair to compare the 2 either.
why? because your 1000hp cars are NOT trailer or dyno queens?

and i am talking 4cyl 1000+hp monsters. not 6cyl 2jz-gte's or ls1-6's v8's. big difference there. those cars produce much more hp and are much more performance oriented to begin with
my point is, again, you made it sound like he could buy a cobalt and make 1000hp on it no problem. what relevance does your tube frame, rebuilt every other run race engine have to do with what he's looking at? hell what do they even have to do with this thread?

lol. n/a and psi don't belong in the same sentence.

n/a = naturally aspirated

psi = forced induction

by the way. this shows you what PARTS you need to HANDLE 1000hp. it doesn't actually show you how to acheive the 1000hp. and in fact, of the cars it mentions in the 600-1000hp sections, none of them are making 1000hp. and they are hot rod class tube frame dragsters. lol.

so that takes me back to my original question

yeah. those hot rod dragster tube frame cars are just as much a cobalt, as is stephen papadakis dragster is to a civic.

yeah. 1000hp on METHANOL. lol. so please, tell me what a 1000hp race prepped methanol dragster has to do with my original question of "show me a cobalt SS that's making 1000hp".

Yes S2000man01 just got to be a site admin because he was sleeping in daze

I've been here for a long time, had even a few different names, and I have noticed S2000man01 always backs up what he says with facts and sites, he's a very good researcher. You on the other hand show a link to a drag car and say that engine can be put into a street driven car (note a small differance between tube frame cars and unibody cars). Who needs to wake up here?

hahah see i never once stated that the cobalt or the redline was making those #'s. my exact quote was " gm makes parts that can put it(the ecotec) into the 1000hp range" now if your reading too far into it then your sleeping. i never once said that the cobalt or redline can produce 1000+hp. you guys are putting words into my mouth. and it doesnt mater, all you guys are looking for is an argument. that is all i ever see out of s2000kman. he wants to be right and prove everyone else wrong. i take it he does this to make himself feel like he is above that person he speaks to. i find it utterly rediculous that no one person can state anything on this site w/o having their post ripped apart by some guy who is acting like a know it all. there are other platforms besides a f20c that can make good power. so just keep tearing apart people posts to find a minute detail that you construed out of a post and exploit it to make yourself seem above someone else. i havent been a member here very long and from this kind of treatment and the treatment i see him deliver to others some times i probably wont be here too much. i would much rather be in a forum that people can post and not get torn into by s2kman for him misinterpreting a post. so say what ever you want i wont reply. i refuse to be a part of your childish games. i save a lot of what i had to say before from my previous post. i edited it becase i didnt want to get into it. i am not the argumentative type. but you guys are really something else. its nothing but childish bickering and pointing fingers. grow up!!!!!

amazing it really is. its hard to fathom how a simple statement can turn into t ahuge argument over me proving facts. which i did and it still isnt good enough. well i should have known that from the other threads i read of him doing the same thing. way over it. ill just sit back and laugh now. no need to carry this on anymore.
