How fast do you think it will run?

British American Racing Honda is going to run a F-1 car at the Bonneville salt flats. They're going to try to see what a standard F1 car is capable of doing in a straight line.

This article says they can run up to 220 mph on race tracks, but they're aiming for 250. The question of the day is: What is the exact number you think they will run?

I'm guessing 247mph.

Autoweek's article about it.

i would say 260+ i mean if you have been out there you would see that its huge like you can almost see the curvature of the earth its so large and flat. so they could let it run for like 5 minutes +

Ichiban is an unknown quantity at this point
Depends on the gear ratios they are using. But if they use the longest i would say 260 maybe more.

you have to think about the way that an F1 car is designed though. They have a lot of downforce built into their design for handling. Drag may keep them from reaching insane #s. (They'll probably run all of the low drag bodywork though). A "basically" stock bodied 3rd gen firebird broke 300mph there one time with a turbo small block, anything's possible.

drag is different than downforce.

higher downforce usually = higher drag
