Hey Htown. So what happens when something breaks on it? do you take it to a Honda dealership or a Acura dealership? Are u going to add the motor to your insurance?

Well I'm from Texas, so that means I drive a pickup truck Actually I do own a pickup truck (red '94 Mazda 62200)... my previous car before the truck was an old blue '88 Volvo 240DL beater. I ran the old Volvo ragged all throughout high school and most of college, and learned to drive a stick on the truck during my last few years of college. I bought my 7th gen Civic after I graduated and had been working for about a year (I graduated Univ. of Texas class of 2000).
A lot of my friends throughout high school and college had cool fixed up imports, and I remember always going out to Westheimer in Houston on Sat. nights many years ago in my friend's old (it was new back then) white Prelude. I've always thought Hondas were the coolest cars, and made up my mind early on that I was going to buy a new one as soon as I had the $$.

Sure, I can meet up with you guys. Just let me know when/where you guys meet and I'll see if I can make it out there. During the week I'm usually booked; the company I work for is doing a technology project for the Texas Dept. of Criminal Justice (TDCJ), so I live/work on-site in Huntsville, TX during the week. But on the weekends I'm either hanging out in Houston or in Austin (if there's a Univ. of Texas football, basketball, or baseball game on the weekend, I'm almost always guaranteed to be in Austin).
In case any of you were wondering - yes, Huntsville is the execution capital of the world (where G.W. Bush did his best work when he was governor of the Lone Star State). One of the offices where I work is right next door to the maximum security facility where death row inmates are kept. You have to be careful about where you park - because some spaces are reserved for loading/unloading inmates. Sometimes at night we'll play pickup basketball with the prison guards - and let me tell you those guys play ROUGH! These are guys whose daily jobs are to beat down death row inmates... a bad day at work for them is a LOT different than bad day at work for me.

You know, I was thinking about that very same thing last night. After I swap in the motor, I will have finished violating every single major warranty on my car (my suspension warranty was voided when I put in coilovers and new struts, and the motor swap would void the engine/tranny/drivetrain warranty). I suppose I could still take the motor into an Acura dealership and the rest of the car to a Honda dealership, and they might still be willing to fix it (although not under warranty, of course).
The 6 mo. warranty on the K20A motor kit from Greenleaf certainly helps, though. So does the fact that the K20A motor is practically brand new. And at the rate I was piling up miles on my D17A2 (driving back and forth between Huntsville, Houston, and Austin), my warranty would have ran out in less than 2 years anyway.

Update on the motor:
The K20A motor kit was successfully shipped to Greenleaf's Houston (Pearland) warehouse today. I'm still waiting for the Acura RSX electrical manual to arrive (should be here by Friday). The guys at Carboy said to bring the electrical manuals for the D17A and K20A and they'll see what kinds of custom wiring needs to be done. They said that if the K20A motor can bolt right into the 01 Civic chassis (which it does), then it usually isn't a problem to do the swap. They also said to give them a few days to do some research and diagramming, since the K20A swap into the D17 chassis has never been attempted before. In the meantime I'm going to keep the motor stored at Greenleaf Houston. I'm estimating that Carboy will be able to finish their pre-swap research and start working on the motor swap by middle of next week.

Congrats on the K20!! It's going to be the best 7thgen that's on the streets that I know of. Maybe you should give a call to Sport Compact Car, Super Street, etc.... get the engine switch in their magazine
A couple of things I've noticed about the K20A:
1) The engine is on the opposite side (passenger side) of the engine bay, and the battery for the RSX is on the opposite side of my Civic. The K20A will bolt into the D17A chassis with no problems, but my battery might have to be moved. Carboy said it would be no problem to relocate the battery, though.
2) Intake valves for the K20A are on the front, exhaust valves are in the rear. This is a change from previous Honda engines - not sure if our Civic engines have the same configuration (can anyone shed some light on this)?
3) Engine rotates in opposite direction from previous Honda engines (I think our Civic also rotates the same way as the RSX engine - can someone confirm this?)

i'm not sure about the engine rotating but i know the intake/exhaust manifold will be backwards. i wanna be the first or 2nd or 3rd person to see it. (since i'm convienently in Houston already)

Yeah, no problem to relocate the battery. I know lots of people that relocate batteries to the trunk or from the front of the engine compartment to the rear...
I'm pretty sure that the intake valves are at the rear and exhaust is in the front on our (2k1 honda civic) engine. Mainly b/c your headers come out the front and your intake goes in the back. The RSX is the oposite.
I've also heard that the RSX motor rotates the same way that ours does, which is opposite the previous gens.

No, The new RSX is the first honda/acura to have the engine nestled in on the passenger side, and the first to rotate in the opposite direction (clockwise i believe...not sure here). On the civic, the exhaust is in the front, intake on the back (opposite of the K20) and still rotates the same as all other previous honda/acura's. BTW... I think Im gonna make my vacation this year to come out to see your car!!!! Major props to you

To bodly go where no man has gone before....Im not a Trekky!

Just got off the phone with Carboy, and they said that the engine rotation and reversal of exhaust and intake manifolds shouldn't be a problem at all. The guy I talked to said that in Japan they just swapped a K20A into a 2002 Civic Si chassis (identical to our 01 Civic chassis) with no problems. Of course, we won't know for sure if everything is 100% certain until they're able to do research into the electrical wiring, but slowly the path is looking clearer and clearer.
He also said that AEM has just released an electronic chip that will solve any electrical wiring difficulties for around $1200. You just select the motor type, and then everything will be configured correctly.
well the 02 Si is built off the same chassis as the 01, just like the RSX, but its engine configuration is the same as the RSX, reversed exhaust/intake as well as the engine on the other side rotating the other direction, which is why the 02 si is unique in the sense that its the first model of civic to be like that, it has to be considering its using the RSX drivetrain
that AEM chip he's talking about sounds like the new AEM EMS (which the i-club thinks might actually retail at like 1400-1600), not too flexible in comparison to other EMS's but its biggest advantage is that it plugs into the factory ecu/harness, so i dont see how that'd help if you're going to be using the RSX-S ecu anyway? im sure he knows much more bout it than i do though so whatever

wait i just thought about that, i think that guy is pullin your leg dude, that makes no sense, why would they put a K20A into an 02 Si? the Si already has a 2.0 i-vtec, why would you pay that much cash (even in the jdm i imagine this isnt a cheap thing to do) to get an engine that's only 40hp more powerful of the same size? getting a 2.0 i-vtec from the stock Si or base RSX to be as powerful as the RSX-S isnt easy, but it certainly can be done for less than even $4000 total USD, which is what i'd expect they'd be paying to have it done for them
