Post Windshield Crack Part 1

Well,

I finally talked to my dealer (acura Dealer) about the crack in my windshield. I told the lady at service theres a crack in my windshield thats very abnormal. Obviously started from a small chip, but spread like the glass was not put in correct. Its an 04 EL, I told her about a TSB like the one below. Shes like there are no TSB's for the car in this regards, but decided to come out and look at it anyways. She went right to the "spot" where the crack formed as if she did it before. Said sorry can't help you here, can give a deal on a new window for $250 (when a new one cost's $230). Well I knew this wasn't gonna be easy to convince a dealer to change a windshield under warranty, So I asked for the customer service line and their service manager. I am going to call them this week and build a lil case...

Bulletins for 2004 Honda Civic L4-1.7L SOHC

Service Bulletins
TSB Number Issue Date TSB Title 02-034 APR 04 SRS - Indicator Lamp ON/Multiple DTC's Set
03-068 APR 04 Body - Door Lock Cylinder Binds/Sticks
88-023 MAR 04 Battery - Testing Procedure
02-002 MAR 04 M/T - Clutch Pedal Noise/Notchy Feel
04-009 FEB 04 Computers/Controls - HIM Module Updating
01-023 JAN 04 Engine Controls - Control Module Programming Procedure
01-091 OCT 01 Windshield - Cracks At Lower Corners
96-012 JUL 00 A/C - System Performance Testing

I also went to the Honda Dealership (being a honda window). Wow, lovely service there also, basically get outa here..lol.

Below is a pic of crack, if anyone has a crack similar (as I've seen 5 other civics with exact crack) can you post it? Obviously can't get them to pay for all of it, but at least 50%, sorta trying to get a case:

recent pic!:

Ok..so maybe it does not have a direct cause. But I would like other pictures from people with cracks like mine, I've seen 4 cars here in Stony Plain, can't be that hard...

the crazy list of tsb's...

I had the same crack. Sorry, no pics. I did read somewhere that the Deformed Windshield Molding was the cause of the crack. Apparently it was a problem on a few different years of the 7th gen.

Its not like its not uncommon in other cars, look at the 2003-04 Element , Honda has secrety provided a warranty claim for it:Element WINDSHIELD

"Honda’s confidential bulletin clearly states the manufacturer has a serious problem with cracking windshields that suffer from factory-related mistakes. Unfortunately, while Honda has this secret warranty extension in its back pocket, dealers are telling owners to seek payment from their insurance companies, resulting in higher insurance premiums for affected owners.” This stonewalling behaviour is unusual for Honda, but thoroughly documented in angry reports of owners found on the U. S. government’s NHTSA “Consumer Complaints” website"

WTF? I had an almost identical crack in my 04 EX coupe. One day I came out to my car and it was just cracked like that. Also, about a week after I bought the car the passenger side window shattered while sitting in the parking lot. I called the police and they didn't think it looked anything like a break in because of how the glass landed, and the fact that no one took anything or disturbed anything. Luckily the dealer was easily convinced to fix that one under warranty, but I had to file a claim with insurance to get the windshield fixed. I'm starting to think Honda has some issues with glass....

Unfortunenately, the crack will grow because it is not ment to shatter but to spread out. Combine that with the use of ac/difference in heat outside and inside and you'll get a crack that Honda won't pay for.

I had to get my '01's windshield repaired after the crack that started the size of a quarter ended up going from one end to the other along the bottom. I couldn't get it done through Honda though...
