This probably sounds stupid, but in an automatic is it bad while your driving to drop it in neutral and rev the engine then switch back to drive?

Is it just bad for the transmission? Can you rev the engine at all in neutral even if your not moving?

The best way to show off an exhaust in an auto probably would be just to gun it. Just hammer that bi*tch.
But you can roll and rev your engine in neutral, that doesn't hurt anything, it's when the engine is reved then
thrown back into gear. You definitely don't want to do that.

you can always just take off and leave the guy in your dust. that does a pretty good job at showing off your exhaust. hehe.

Yeah, its called put in in Neutral. Then press on gas pedal. The one to the right. Not only is is bad for the tranny, but its also bad for the axle and suspension.

OK, imagine this. Your wheels are spinning, which spins your drive shaft which is not connected to the transmission because you are in neutral. Now, you shift into gear, with the drive shaft spinning. You are connecting two parts, both spinning at different rates. This causes excessive wear and tear of your gears. Now, if you just rev it while you are not moving and wait fot the RPM's to drop to normal idle speed before you shift to drive, then there is no problem. Peace...

Uh, Ya....... Dont slam it back into gear until the revs come down. Its about the same as a neutral drop - reserved for rental cars.

Usually you will cause problems with the tranny if you drop it to N floor it and imediately put it back in drive, but if you MUST do it, after you rev the engine wait til the rpms travel down to where they are suposed to be normally (usually between 2 and 3 grand) before switching back to drive, causes less of a shock.

Yes, you can do that....you just don't want your RPMs to be above idle when you put the car back in drive. You can sit there all day and rev if you want, just don't throw it into gear when the engine is above idle in RPMs.

I have a friend that neutral drops his car a lot and it never seems to hurt the car. But I would never do it... Just rev the engine when you are coasting or stopped. Put it back into drive when the RPM drops back down below 2k
